Super interesting for Microsoft to be releasing this narrow of a product. Don't get me wrong, there's probably a market, but Salesforce would never do this, for a big company it's a platform play, let a partner build the tiny time tracking app.
- DrBazza 10y agoNarrow product? Version 1, perhaps. But any of the millions of companies in the world could use this. It's a huge market. And a huge percentage of that market are entrenched Office users. Embrace, extend, and extinguish...
- tracker1 10y agoNot really embrace or extinguish... they're embracing the SaaS model, but in a lot of way's that's even more portable and able to move, provided sufficient tooling. It seems to me that they're offering a compelling competing product to what Google Docs has, and expanding upon it far more/better than where Google has. At least in terms of servicing business. This is actually pretty great. Leveraging a windows monopoly to encroach on other areas and using unpublished APIs for competitive advantage is quite different than this. I wish MS all the best with this one.
- smoyer 10y agoMicrosoft owns Yammer and has recently merged it into Office 365. I think the broader goal is to be the Enterprisy version of Slack, Trello, Google Docs (or other), etc. and to merge them into a single platform that they can lease as SaaS.
- tracker1 10y agoThe product is bundled with other Office 365 services and software (email, online office, yammer, etc).
