Interesting response from the WG chair: http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/ietf-http-wg/2014AprJun/... An aside: I find it odd how HN users jump to agreement when a link to a single mailing-list message

IMO the syntax of Verilog isn't so problematic. Adhering to a simple style guide will avoid most gotchas. The author does make a passing reference to the real problems though: 1. Simulation is many orders of magnitude slower than the s

You don't need any nesting. All those methods could be declared at the same level, though that entails passing more params to them since you can't rely on closures. That's probably how you'd divide your synchronous code

I'm a Googler, and comments here from other Googlers are correct: 20% time still exists and requires no manager approval, but only a minority of engineers take advantage of it. For instance, in my team of 14, only 2 work on 20% project

"I've never been so excited about anything we've funded." That's great! I'm excited that you're excited. I imagine we'll see a lot more non-profits in YC shortly. Will 2013 be the year of many such non-profits, like 2012 was for hardware st

Regarding the dangerous speeds that a 2kW motor could propel you to, the full 2kW might only be used when going uphill. At 100% efficiency, 2kW will let a 75kg person travel at 10 meters/s [1] (sprinting speed) on a 15% incline. [1] 2000 /

"We'll consider single founders too, but we prefer groups" I'm surprised you're willing to consider single founders at all. No team, no idea/product... what's left? (Disclaimer: I've applied many times as a single founder and have gotten ju

Agreed with the general proposal: the only time periods that are important to preserve are the day (coz of morning/night), the week (coz of work-week and religious days), and the year (coz of seasons). The month is pretty arbitrary. They pr

Looks nifty. Some feature requests: 1. Should get feedback for actual energy consumption from the meter. 2. Should allow installation of extra sensors that are wirelessly connected to the main unit, in case the main unit is far from the cou

I think Steve Jobs's passing away was a bigger shock to people because the memory of him and his accomplishments was/is very fresh in people's minds. He was the CEO of Apple till just over a month ago. It's like finding out a friend passed

Hmm looks like a lot of work for relatively little in savings [1]. As a guest I'd rather avoid it and pay the premium for the convenience of a traditional hotel [2]: you just walk in and book a room. I recognize that making friends is claim

We need a generic fix for the patent system, not something specific to software. I think the only way to do this is to change the process of suing for patent infringement. The patent holder must determine how much investment was made to dev

From the FAQ: "Files never touch or pass through our servers." Peer-to-peer transfer has some speed benefits, but completely avoiding a server-based fallback seems more problematic. The sender needs to be online when the recipients are down

I don't disagree, but in a world where so many startups are reliant on just one API/platform (startups making Twitter clients, Facebook apps, and even iOS apps to some extent), Greplin seems to be relatively safe.

It's not too scary when you're relying on APIs from several different companies, as is the case with Greplin. Startups that are reliant on a single API (or other single closed platform) seem much scarier.

You're right. I suppose the 3% is meant to just about cover the credit card fees then. E.g. http://www.airbnb.com/rooms/73581 . Click the 'more info' link that's just below the 'Book it' button. It says in tiny print "Excludes Airbnb serv

Estimate of revenue to date: $50 per night * 3% * 1M = $1.5M Hmm looks like Airbnb handles the credit card transaction for the lister. If 2 out of that 3% goes to the credit card companies and banks, the adjusted revenue is $500k.
