This replaces a use case of pip freeze. If you only use pip freeze for that use case then it is a replacement.

IRC is pretty much perfect. No "X user is typing" messages. No ads, no tracking, no javascript. No hidden instance of chrome running. The community even self selects in to my own interests.

I prefer this resolver to `pip freeze` type pinning for dependency pull safety. Pip freeze makes it a nightmare to remove old packages if you have hundreds of packages frozen.

How many trips to the store do these deliveries save? If I order something small it likely hitches a ride with my neighbors delivery and the delivery of the package itself will have negligible carbon footprint.

If you build your own kernel and you can choose between hundreds of options including building many components as optionally loaded modules. Its all configured through an ncurses interface. Want a kernel that doesn’t support USB? Sure.

A person's job is largely dependent on their own value system. The worth of a person does not correspond to how much that person values career prestige. It is easy to believe the opposite when you value career prestige highly.

Those clerics were ahead of their time. They probably would have banned large cardinals as well (infinites so large we can't prove whether or not they exist.)

From a selfish perspective, I like the current system. It makes it easier to stand out. Understand where depth is lacking on your team and become an expert. Whenever problems occur you become the go-to. Pros and cons but mostly pros.

Keep in mind technological knowledge is not the only factor. We pass on hiring plenty of technically competent people because of their communication skills. Knowing what you don’t know is one way to improve your communication skills.

I am impressed with the level of linux knowledge in this thread. How do people become linux kernel hackers? Most of the developers I know (including myself) use linux but have very little awareness beyond application level programming.

That still seems like a wild literal over-interpretation. If we think like a physicist we can say that prosocial lying is wrong yet still understand that the mathematician will consider it okay in the limit case.

Because of the mask debacle I would say that Twitter was a better source of information about the pandemic than any major world health organization. I dislike social media more than the average bear. Imagine a crack pot on twitter gets one

This is a very European comment responding to a very American comment. That paper is too sober to represent any side of American politics.

You can easily distinguish GPT-3 from a human. GPT-3 does not write like a human nor would it be able to respond to strange queries in a way that a human would. Its quite far from passing the Turing test.

I found those age adjusted rates some time after I posted. It strikes me as odd. I'm sure if we adjust by enough rates we can come to whatever conclusion we want. What if we adjusted for gang prevalence and suicide rate as well?

You can't determine the toll being a content moderator will have on you. How are you supposed to determine whether the job is worth the salary? The true costs come later. This suggests a legislative approach to the problem but, good lu
