I've been looking for a reason to dig into this tool. For those who haven't heard of RiskQuadrant, Netflix put out an article about the project about two weeks ago: https://medium.com/@NetflixTechBlog/open-sou

This is interesting and brave because it invites others to make value judgements on your performance. Personally I love the transparency because it helps demystify the operation for others considering getting into the business. But "Op

IE took the lead with v4 because it was shipped with Win95 sp2.5 and Win98 v1. There was a lawsuit about it and everything. More importantly, web users dont know or care which browser renders sites "more correctly." They did under

XHTML was late to the party by at least four years. And the problem was not specifically about doctype validation, it was about how pages looked. Contracts with web users are visual first.

Sure, but latency is not the same as size. You're talking about latency optimization via local caching. IPFS is a bit of a heavy solution compared to a simple cache. IPFS solves a totally different problem.

IPFS and decentralization don't really address artifact size issues.

Docker images are designed for minimal artifact transport while avoiding the need for assembly from source at the edge. If anyone is pushing around 1GB images for iterative deployments they might be able to do better with a few tweaks to th

Having more features does not make a browser superior. IE had a universe of memory leak and CSS rendering quirks. Their rendering was so overly permissive that "anyone" could put a mess together and it'd render. That permissi

Before I read the article I was guessing that it had to do with the leaked memo regarding Google cloud growth targets and the popular conclusion that they'll be shutting it down or pivoting that LoB in 2023. https://news.yco

I think the proposal is well-intentioned and shortsighted. Nobody ever plans for a junk drawer feature, but certain features are destined to be fragile fuzzy contracts regardless. Unless this proposal seeks to eliminate the differences betw

I've been on MiaB since 2014, and aside from Gmail focused Chrome extensions, I haven't had a single issue. Easily one of my favorite projects.

These are hardly new concepts, nor are there any more appropriate mechanisms for modeling dependencies between multiple concurrent actors. If anything, the traditional shared memory nightmare has proven to be the goto in the room.

Like most things they do in Oregon, this will certainly not have the desired effect. Infrastructure in Portland is stressed enough without doubling density. Turning 1 $600K home into two $500k homes isn't going to help anyone but the s

It bothers me that HTTP + aggregators or search failed so hard in this arena. I'd prefer an "IPFS + curated journal documents" model to any of these "hubs."

More likely: * You make the change. * Your peer green lights the change because they have also been independently compelled by the government. * You and your peer never talk about it again.
