When I ask Google why XHTML fails it replies https://www.quora.com/Why-did-the-XHTML-specification-fail https://www.quora.com/Why-did-the-XHTML-specification-fail which mentions first invalid pages not rendering then more subtle interoperability problems, not "how page look".
