XMPP as a product was growing and doing fine until it completely failed to operate in the model of modern smart phones that have to use push services to stay connected. This Reddit link has some good descriptions of the limitations: https:

When admins decide to outright block entire domains based on some contrived bias with no input from users (ie user setting to block meta or whatever fediblock says) that pretty much kills the utility and purpose for having a federated netwo

I think Zuck is mostly right as far as the fundamentals of the core tech. Meta has a lot of strong competency in this space as far as building the core components of a hand tracked XR computing experience. What I do think Zuck misses are tw

I don’t think you can compare the quest2 to the displays and optics this thing probably has. I have a quest pro and the display and optics are like night and day compared to the 2. The problem I see is the application stack is terrible on t

The desktop messenger apps are still react native. The mobile apps were always native (ObjC and C++ on iOS, C++ and Java on Android). The mentioned project was mostly to rewrite the core of messenger in C to further reduce overhead and code

Former Apple Employee here: I still remember for one WWDC my colleague’s talk had to be altered to change all mentions of “A-Series” socs to “A7 and later” to avoid triggering “Hey Siri” on every single person’s phone in the audience.

A lot of this control and insight into the µarch is gleaned by the public not from the hardware company's released drivers or docs but through exactly this sort of reversing. See Ager's website as an example. You could also take t

Do you care that Nvidia isn't open with their Linux driver or that Broadcom didn't to my knowledge ship an open source driver for many of their wifi cards? It is really common for GPU vendors to keep their hardware details proprie

So what? Did Broadcom or Nvidia contribute to the open source drivers you probably use on Linux? How many contributions did Intel make to the Linux kernel from 1991 to 2000 during which the kernel was in the infancy of running on Intel sili

Even if Apple makes it impossible for asahi to work at all the Linux kernel would have benefited from bug fixes and graphics devs writing shaders for apple devices would have better insight into the perf of what they are writing due to a re

You are what folks would call a Linux consumer. Fact is that 1) if everyone (especially kernel devs) all had your attitude linux wouldn't run on a darn thing 2) Apple's made no indication that they would stop alternative operating
