Very interesting - didn't know that. I always install OMZ after zsh.

by zeppelin101 4y ago
Zsh has the "take" command which accomplishes this.

Agreed on the hibernation part. My last year's high end XPS 17 has this kind of issue. Sometimes I get BSODs after a hibernation, especially if certain peripherals are connected. That aside, I do think the laptop is really great (albei

I absolutely loved the LG Gram 17 (2021) but I had to return it for one reason - the screen was way too glossy. I simply couldn't use it anywhere outside my home (where I'm able to set up lighting in an optional way), which kind o

Reddit and YouTube have tons of great info.

Agreed, definitely. It's a game-changer.

I don't always use applications posted on HackerNews, but when I do, they're ones written in Rust.

Having given SqlModel a very proper go a few months back, I have to say that it's not worth using it just yet. There are too many outstanding issues and the documentation is also incomplete. Maybe in a year's time, the situation c

When I looked into it some time ago, what tripped me up was that it seemed that you needed to deploy it using Docker. Otherwise, you'd have quite an involving set up process: install Ruby, Rails, then a database. Then you'd probab

Regarding Ruby on Rails on Windows, using Docker is probably the way to go. As a bonus, deployment will become easy, as well.

A lot of it is going to the administrative staff. They have massive departments, many buildings, and many unnecessary staff members with high salaries. Meanwhile, a lot of the teaching faculty is making a pittance.

I think Rails is considered to be the best framework for prototyping purposes. I don't have a lot of experience with it, but I was impressed by it. My understanding is that Rails is effectively the only thing that makes Ruby relevant.

I quite liked Unity, myself, but I recall that the Linux community was very upset and vocal at Canonical for having ditched Gnome. It's really hard to please everyone.

It takes a couple minutes, at most, if you sync settings.

I've been using ocrmypdf on Windows through WSL very successfully. Works perfectly.

Xonsh is damn impressive and I loved playing around with it. But it is really slow.

Eventually you get stories like "How come fewer men are going to college!!" to really blow up. But no one wants to think about the un-PC reasons for it. It's all so tiresome.

This is exactly how I use Sublime Text. It's probably a workable development environment, but there are too many solid alternatives for that purpose for me. But as far as a quick text or code editor, there is nothing else I'd rath

by zeppelin101 5y ago
You're 100% right. The only thing I'll say is that there are still movies made worth seeing, but you have to look more carefully for them. Without a doubt, most of the box office hits and many of the award winners are overhyped, b

I've lived on the west coast my whole life, so I don't know much about other types of cities. Suffice it to say, all the major cities on the west coast have a lot of empathy for the downtrodden, such as the homeless and drug-addic

Very true, but it was inevitable. The tool worked way too well to remain under the radar for too long. What will be interesting to watch will be where the forked versions of Youtube-dl will end up.
