In the UK it's more pronounced. I pay £0.28/kWh for electricity and £0.069/kWh for gas, so as I understand it installing a heat pump will end up increasing my energy bills unless its coefficient of performance is over 4.

Exactly. Maybe I’m just a lightweight, but 4 beers is into ‘drunk’ levels for me. Doing that 2 or 3 times a week? Of course that’s going to have health impacts.

Isn't the standard corollary to that "80% of features not being used" statement that it's a different 80% for every user?

There's a balance. I went to a firework display last month and two teenagers in front of us stood side by side, both videoing the fireworks. Not just holding their phones up, they watched the entire display on their phone screen. Surel

I'm in the UK and I've got a charger being installed next week. The basic Ohme model is costing me £900 installed. Prices were the same pretty much everywhere I looked.

- At least on my phone screen, the button to dismiss the upsell page is covered by other UI elements. I find this to be incredibly common on so many sites on mobile. Cookie popups or "subscribe to our newsletter" popups where th

Timezone bugs are evil and crop up at the worst times, though. The last one I (knowingly) wrote wasn't spotted until the CEO tried to use our software on holiday on the day of a DST change.

I agree, I find it hard to read about because it makes me so angry. Four people driven to suicide, hundreds of lives ruined. It took them so long to hold all the inquiries and decide on compensation that dozens have died before being acquit

The price point is wrong. Even charging at peak times EVs are cheaper. Charging overnight EVs are far cheaper.

In the long term, I guess light emitted to space and the embedded energy in spaceships are the only things that don't end up as heat in the atmosphere?

From my experience with Gradle, it's fairly tricky at the build tool level, trying to do it at the CI level must surely be harder. If (for example) I change a value in gradle.properties at the top level, do I need to rerun every test i

I spent a year while failing to get a PhD in process scheduling writing all the constraints in Prolog, before the university got an ILOG license and I realised how much time I'd wasted.

I think it reduces the lower bound for how many civilisations we'd expect to exist, from our N=1 example? 1 civilisation in (say) 1 million years would suggest they're more common than 1 civilisation in 13.7 billion years?
