Dunno why you're getting downvoted. It's true, and it only adds to the Drapers being enormous assholes; it doesn't contradict that. The leader of the #calexit campaign was an American who was living in Russia. Plus Russia

I like the way you think. Are there any books you recommend on understanding how oligarchs think? What do you think is going through the mind of oligarchs with more geopolitical concerns, like Putin?

Nonsense. My sister-in-law is a professor and my brother is the stay-at-home dad, for the sake of her career. They're on kid #2 now. He does all the nighttime stuff so she can sleep and be refreshed for work.

I think hueving just meant to say that not every institution is corrupt, and the medical industry is good when it comes to vaccines. The vested interests, in this case doctors, are doing great, and the anti-vaxxers are bad.

There's limited time and a lot of bullshit to wade through, and I'm busy enough staying abreast of my chosen fields. Credentialism is often abused, but it remains a useful heuristic. It's definitely not useful for people who

I'm no fan of toxic chemicals in our food and I don't trust the government or corporations to do enough to protect it, but it seems fair to me to say that a PhD in philosophy and a master's in physics are not particularly rel

Yes, I think you're absolutely right. It's a combination of capitalism and bad urban planning (having to hop in a car to see people is bad for socializing since people are so lazy).

Yeah, seriously, this isn't some introvert/extrovert thing. Most people are really bad at confrontation. I confronted an extrovert who owed me a couple hundred bucks once, and he was most definitely, definitely "stun-locked.&

Friendship is worth it. Loneliness is a serious threat to your health. It keeps your cortisol levels elevated. The effect on your health is comparable to a bad smoking habit. According to this study, mortality goes up by at least 26%: http

Cause that would require billions of dollars and a new state bureaucracy. I think building tons and tons of affordable housing would be great, but where's the money? I don't think the public support for an enormous housing bond is

Of course I know anti-development people are the ones most likely to show up to public meetings. I've gone to plenty in Palo Alto, and I canvassed for a pro-growth slate. I'm not the kind of apathetic techie who only reads social

The connection between NIMBYs and displacement goes like this: newcomers come in and increase prices of rentals, NIMBY homeowners refuse to build more housing, long-time renters are displaced by the newcomers who can afford more. Simple sup

Not really. Your right to an unchanging neighborhood absolutely does not eclipse the right of a long-term renter's ability to stay in their community, or the right of a newcomer's desire to move to a better job. Plus, climate chan

True dat. Supply is necessary but not sufficient. I don't think this is too popular amongst YIMBYs, but some of us do support limited rent-control for the sake of displacement protection.

Because high rents cancel out the benefits of a high salary. It's simple arithmetic. Why give up 30k of a 100k salary to work and live in SF, when I could give up 10k of an 90k salary in Austin instead? (These are just illustrative fig
