And wouldn't it have been nice if he could have saved himself a decade of the pain that is medical school, residency, and practice, by leaping into the tech industry earlier? It would be one thing if he had been making all his own choices,

Wow, that was a really uptight article. When you make it easier to take photos, you'll get more shitty photos. There's nothing to be nostalgic about. I could flip his complaint on its head--old timey photos, due to the scarcity of film, wer

If you wear T-shirts, that's a sign that you think the game is too crappy to be even worth noticing. That's why it's rebellious. Wearing a nicer suit might show up your boss, sure, but you're still playing the status game.

Patrick is talking about his life as a Japanese salaryman, where 12 (14?) hour workdays are the daily norm at his company, and, if I recall correctly, there are no weekends. He is not talking about Bingo Card Creator.

Hm, good point. Kind of a shame that I got so many more upvotes than you. The OP's point about carrots being as good as junk food is still bullshit, though.

Carrots don't cause the same insulin spike that candy bars do. Refined and processed sugars hit your bloodstream much more quickly than unprocessed foods. Carrots also don't taste as good as a chocolate bar, so it would still be an epic sac

That was really uncharitable towards small businesses. The article makes a false dichotomy between wanting your freedom and helping other people. Surely my ability to do the latter is maximized once I'm free of the need to go to a soul-suck

Oh, come ON. You wrote this essay specifically to be encouraging. Somebody responded saying they felt discouraged. You failed, and you're getting feedback. You have something to fix if you want to encourage people. Stop being so defensive.

Just because it was Facebook doesn't mean the initial code was very good. Twitter's suffering a lot of technical debt from some bad initial decisions in the codebase.

I don't know about point 1. My parents paid me for good grades, and my attitude towards learning is a little warped now, to say the least. (They were also Tiger Parents, though. Motivation is a tricky thing to get right.) For point 2, defin
