You go where the people who might know better talk about these things! AV forums for picking a TV or projector, cooking forums for picking a knife set, and HN, you know, for picking the contrast level of your <body> text.

I suppose it depends on the extend of the impoverished-ness. The homeless certainly aren’t worried about lightbulbs but the 65% of Americans living paycheck to paycheck probably appreciate the savings.

Regarding the Tesla comments; Radar is back by the way, with an increased resolution that makes it more useful in highways where overhead signs false positive as a collision risk on the old sensor. The ultrasonic sensors IMO were basically

Cars are starting to move to 48V DC. My under cabinet lighting in the kitchen are powered by DC from a power supply in the basement. I could definitely see this becoming more common. Powering the ~100 watts of fixed lighting spread across m

Save on their electric bill with cheap LEDs that get the job done, while worrying about more important things than if the bulb flickers sometimes when you dim it?

The lifespan on incandescent isn’t a conspiracy. Cheap bright incandescents don’t last very long. The centennial light was neither cheap or bright - presently it’s about the strength of a 4-watt nightlight. You put enough power through a t

If you want nice things that engineers spent thousands of hours researching, designing, and tuning, you can do the research to find those brands and pay extra for them. Most people don’t want to pay the premium and don’t value the benefits

As long as the conversion was done at the exchange rate at the time the grant was given, I would say it doesn’t matter. But taking an ancient bounty and multiplying it by an exchange rate from years later would definitely be silly.

This is way beyond moral relativism and even ends justify the means type thinking… It makes no sense to equivocate over the bad things people do by asking everyone to assume the perp had a figurative gun to their head. What this dev did was

I fail to see the contradiction. The capital has already all fled Argentina, and higher rates aren’t going to entice many dollars back in.

It doesn’t boggle my mind at all. Session data appears, and is used to render the page. Do you verify every time the actual cookie and go back to the DB to see what user it pointed to? No, everyone assumes their session object is instantiat

There are two different definitions of the same word. One is balance sheet insolvency, the other is cash flow insolvency. But it’s two forms of the same thing! Cash flow insolvency is usually a result of holding illiquid assets that can’t b

Typical rule of thumb is 3 months OpEx for a small business’ checking account balance. A tiny $400k run-rate company should have $100k in the bank. Keep in mind we’re talking about expense run-rate not profit. The guy who owns 14 car dealer
