Who said anything about 1/2 a horsepower? I’m talking about the most powerful pump in the universe, both (known and unknown). How far up an unbreakable column can that pump push the water? And then, what if you make it just a little mo

You’re missing the fundamental difference in the power vs distance curve. In the case of sucking water, it flatlines and no amount of additional power can move the water another inch once you’ve exceeded the pulling power of a perfect vacuu

It’s funny to think that the purported justification for the order against reading Wikileaks news was actually believed by anyone who heard it. “Don’t read this - it’s for your own good! Just reading it could cause you to have to report aga

Every feature has a complexity burden it imposes on the overall system, and also a risk profile to causing failures as the overall environment changes. Some features are definitely not worth the complexity they impose. Sometimes a feature i

Clearly anyone with the ethical chops to consider resigning over this would be a net-loss to Twitter if in fact they resigned. Is this some sort of named paradox?

I don’t think it has any applicability to anyone beyond Twitter. Maybe it’s a precedent that the FTC will tell you to add non-SMS 2-factor if you are misusing the SMS factor for advertising, but that’s a pretty limited precedent!

Conversely, perhaps protection against this kind of dragnet can be enshrined in Constitutions / Bills of Rights / UN Charters to defend against these attacks more fundamentally.

The problem is exacerbated because 'intolerance' is a buzzword like 'violence' now. It's a label used to attempt to silence or de-platform a dissenting opinion. The people applying the label are often themselves the

I think anyone pitching the “paradox of tolerance” needs to understand recursion a little better, or perhaps try to understand how their argument looks in a mirror to someone who disagrees with their stated position.

That is not what hypocrisy means. Hypocrisy has nothing to do with changing your mind over time. It had to do with taking actions which are consistent with your stated position, and holding yourself up to the same moral and ethical standard

This is nonsensical. What the article is describing is political trash talk, with absolutely nothing to back it up. Typical article published during that time period, and emblematic of the media circus that surrounded Trump.

I can agree with everything that you’re saying! I think there’s one piece missing which changes the nature of the analysis. If fossil fuel deposits were like water aquifers in the sense that they need to be protected, maintained, and replen
