I asked a guy from a PR firm about this at an event at my local University. He said getting stories in local newspapers costs about £2000. National press (meaning in the UK, not the USA) costs more. But it costs way less than the $20k I tho

Today I was at a University small business lecture. Someone asked one of the entrepreneurs "What was your biggest mistake?". The guy said his laptop had been stolen, but luckily it was all auto-backed up onto Dropbox. A nice anecdote and go

I see Groupon as a company that re-sells spas, manicures, meal deals and teeth whitening. If you see it in those terms, it just seems like normal retail.

I guess if Facebook uses their huge valuation to buy startups which use Facebook's API, they don't have to invent their own products, and thus they make income by buying those startups which DO turn a profit.

I have a VB3 (or VB4) application which uploads samples to my hardware sampler over MIDI. But it doesn't work on XP, only 95/98. So there's a counter example to it being totally backward compatible.

I never knew what a 'winsock' was, but at my college in '97, we used dial-up to connect to Demon on Windows 3.1, and it worked great. I used to FTP Amiga demos. Will donate!

Sorry, it was a quote from the TV series Red Dwarf. I have nothing against IF or corduroy!

Before I clicked, I thought it meant text adventures. Clearly they're deader than corduroy if graphical ones are now 'old'.

I compress individual drum/synth tracks through 'insert' channels. All my mixing is done in the analogue world, and only finally goes into my Emu 0202. I used to compress finished tracks, but I have the attitude that people can apply their

I master my songs to 24-bit 192khz - a single master and every multitracked track. Even with 20 tracks at that resolution, each song fits on a DVD-R. As to why I need that resolution, my ancient analogue synth can sound good at that high re

I was confused by this: "The output from the program contains these two lines: APPLY OPERATOR AS OF SEPTEMBER 1, 1959 THE TIME IS NOW 2/16 1139.5" It made it sound like the program outputs those 2 lines, which would win any C obfuscation co

I swear Ultima 6 kept me playing - not even to completion - for 3 months of my entire life. But it was worth every moment. When I'd explored everywhere, I just stopped playing. A strange game.
