One particular thing I've noticed while playing video games is that it's very easy to lose track of where you "are" in the scene. Despite a relatively simple building layout, I notice that my mind doesn't "map&

Don't forget to patent it and sue everyone who uses it, OP. suggestion: seems to only be one level of bounciness, and it only applies at the end of the scroll. itd be cool to see the screen morph while the scroll occurs as a function o

I recommend 2b2t.org, as it is probably the best survival server out there. It's a pvp-enabled anarchy server. Nobody can get banned for any reason whatsoever. The server is ~3 years old and the map has never been reset. What this mean

I imagine that there's plenty of groups from third world countries who would be more than glad to take advantage of a cheap botnet to hold a website at gunpoint in exchange for protection money.

I didn't suggest the book for PUA. When I was 16, I was a socially degenerate nerd who had no friends and zero romantic prospects. The interactions and steps that people go through when forming relationships was absolutely alien to me.

I would be more concerned with my 16 year old self developing their technical skills and social network rather than thinking about doing a startup, so my advice reflects that. -Stay away from python, dynamic typing is a sick joke for anythi

There's a not-so-well known secret about 4chan that can't be glossed over when considering these kinds of things. On 4chan, there's 5-10 boards that are implicit "cancer filter" boards. These boards are used to cura

I like to think that the more passionate people get over something on the internet, the saltier the stuff they tend to write about it.

I think this is a good article, but it was a mistake to start out by citing Fish's situation. Fish is absolutely not an innocent player in this scenario. He would fill his twitter feed with rage-filled comments in reply to people who w

The last thing this situation needs is a bit of petition-based slacktivism to calm people's nerves. Petitions do absolutely nothing. Off the top of my head, I can't recall a single petition in recent history that has done anything

I agree with this comment. Developing a game is one of the most complicated and rewarding projects you can perform on your own. I would go as far to say that developing a complex game may even be on the level of operating system development

Lately my group of friends have been discussing the most underhanded ways to get PAE's to bugger off. Nothing serious, but it's interesting to think about how one of these PAE lawyers would react if you told him his daughter'

Great, exactly what this situation needs, a bunch of self-righteous vigilantes trying to evangelize themselves with another leak. At least Snowden held back any state secrets that would have seriously compromised national security. I highly

To be fair, there was only one paragraph lamenting that the system didn't bend to his needs. If you think that was the theme of this essay, then I suggest you reread it.

Because hacker news isn't reddit and has no business caring about a murder case that's only notable because the mainstream media wants to blow it up for ratings.

Reddit produces so much drama it's ridiculous. I use to think 4chan was a big catalyst for drama, but then reddit rolls around and resets the standard. Between rage over shill moderators on meme subreddits to accusing innocent people

What would really make me wet my pants would be full page takeover-ads. I'd pay serious money to do a full page targeted troll-ad on any number of boards. I can't even imagine the scale of the butthurt that would ensue if someone

Before it was pretty difficult to get any kind of advertising on 4chan. I was looking to advertise a product there a few years or so ago, and you pretty much couldn't get ahold of the admin through the advertisement email address.

There's a lot of americans that have bad blood with the space program; deaths in a colonization program would just fuel them. I'm pretty sure the number of deaths doesn't matter either. Only a few people died in the boston b
