It's pretty funny to see this compared to the S&P 500. Liquidity premiums alone could easily account for the difference in returns. I'd take 20% cash gains over 40% utterly illiquid gains any day. Much more interesting statist

Excellent essay. This really nails what I'd want in a dream job; knowing my effort influences my payout (via legitimately sized equity grants) and working on a mission I empathize with. Best article I've read in a while on hiring.

I believe a handful of motivated, and skilled engineers is more valuable than a large team. I think it is very wise for employers to spend lots of time finding a few great engineers and motivating/retaining them with high salaries and

That's sad to hear of a suicide attempt and I hope the author finds peace and stability. With that said, I am firmly of the opinion that it is not the responsibility of an educational institution to change to accommodate people who fin

You make a good analogy but in my personal opinion, stretch it too far. The greatest scientists don't get caught up in squabbles about creationism with fools - they simply let their work prove it wrong. They are too busy to engage in p

First off, congrats on the hard work and incredible progress you guys have made. I'd just comment that you responding to this, along with a YC partner, only adds credibility to the story. If its BS, it should be totally ignored. The fa

I see a lot of these articles; someone feeling cheated because Google takes them off some or all search results. Google did not "mug" anyone - it is the reason for your traffic to begin with. The fact that you even ever had discov

While I agree the 60 minutes segment seemed like a commercial, I don't understand why one would waste time attacking this innovation (not the helicopters, but the logistics behind it). A more meaningful discussion would be what the act

23andme is a consumer genetic testing company. The testing is not meant to be clinically applied. I work for a company that is similar to 23andme, different in the sense that the test can be clinically applied; the catch is that everything

I like that this is being discussed more. Some related thoughts: - I personally find the numbers low; there is a glut of startups out there partially due to engineers realizing that they are more than often underpaid in terms of equity. - E

Nah, analysts will make 100Kish for up to 3 years, where they can then be promoted to associate which is 150-200K, maybe more if they are great or the firm has a great year. Some firms offer up to 150K for entry-levels but half that comp is

This is interesting but a pointless optimization. I use a cheap brush and have no dental issues to date. Also, for those of you like me who will criticize this -- make sure your small business isn't a virtual analogue of this.
