Especially when "screwing over" means settling a lawsuit with gazillions of dollars. I agree, I don't see much of a similarity between startups and risking death--literally. It seems tantalizing and there is lots of vague overlap in attit

So my logic is faulty based on arrests that weren't reported, are unverifiable, and as far as I know don't exist? Yep, it's faulty because you're assuming that just because you're not aware of something, that something doesn't exist. It

With the amount of precaution they take for space exploration, I'd think a lot of things are more dangerous, fatality-wise, than space exploration.

I don't, purely because local merchants are very, very brand conscious and suspicious of new brands. It is why they keep giving their business to Yellow Pages and to newspapers. It's why Google's had such a hard time cracking the local ma

The bad guy in me sees an opportunity to 'googlebomb' competitors using fake bad reviews In the spam world, it's very common. They call it joe-jobbing . Since spam websites typically have to be hosted on "bulletproof hosts"(hosts that wo

To prove your logic faulty, you just have to look at all the arrests for similar crimes where there was no NYT or any news article.

Why should merchants give Groupon 50% of the face value of coupon, if their competitor will do the same for 25%? And the next one at 10%? Brand. It's why people pay for bottled water vs. free tap water. It's why Groupon can argue they can

Fair point. There may have been very few, if any, parties willing to pay what Goog paid for YT. From that angle, it hardly looks like a steal. But if you think about YT's growth and strategic fit since the acquisition, it looks like a steal

Google's long struggled to break into local. At 2.5B, Groupon's going to look like an even bigger steal than YouTube.

This had more to do with me just having gotten hooked to programming than the book. Still, the book VB 6 Step by Step totally rocked and contributed to me pulling all nighters programming random stuff in middle school.

Along the same lines, non-reactiveness can also work and can even be fun. There is this one kid on campus who I've run into a few times. The kid apparently knows every brown kid--except me. The first time we met he asked me if I was a fresh
