I told the employer that I currently work 4 days so I won’t join without keeping that schedule. Before that, I just asked for 4 days and made it clear I provide the value of those who work 5 days a week. No pay cut required.

I completely agree with you. You’ll want to remove them anyway. So you’re going to have a script run to strip them. These hackernews developers always act like it’s the most blissful thing “If only we could just write JS without running a s

80% of typescript modules don’t export esm? What? Most people write code using esm for the past few years. If anything the problem is that shared libraries are only exporting esm so tools like jest that still require commonjs don’t work.

I’ve had Apple Music convert saved songs from explicit to censored in the past. The software must be written so poorly. Another good one: If you start a station on macOS. You can’t hit previous song to go back. If you’re on iOS you can… App

I’ve been using react for 8 years. In that time I’ve gone from webpack, to vite. Lately using remix or nextjs. Not that much has had to change in that time, it definitely feels more stable in the past 5 years or so. Every new library is usi

Hire senior level people part time. That don’t need to spend lots of time getting context. They can figure out how to solve problems matching your team’s coding style without extra meetings.

If I worked somewhere with 10 hours a week needed for meetings and plannings I would quit. Who cares if they have 6 jobs, that’s not for you to worry about. If they get good work done on your project and skip the extra meetings, they’re wor

If you can get the job done in 20 hours but you are supposed to work 40, I think that’s more of the mindset the parent comment is talking about. Doing the minimum to keep your job and staying a good employee, while not overworking.

I was able to negotiate a 45k pay raise at my current company. After clearly proving my value for about 2 years. I made it obvious that I would accept a role at my friends company if they couldn’t come up. I explained to them nicely that I

Interesting seeing an article about this. Just this week I was looking to get a continuous glucose monitor. I’ve heard it can really prevent diabetes and help you understand what foods spike your levels. The fda won’t allow anyone to get th

This comment appears in every HN thread about web development. Always coming from someone who clearly doesn’t understand the web deeply. If you did you would realize things haven’t changed that drastically in 5+ years now. The new libraries

prisma is amazing, takes 5 minutes to setup, and lets you make just about any query with minimal typing, unlike making raw sql.

One part struck out to me: $100 for tire rotation? I used official Tesla service. They came to me and only charged $25 to rotate them. Oddly enough I mentioned checking the brakes. And they told me they were fine, nothing needed. This was a

State management in Frontend really is a solved problem if you know what you’re doing. Use a tool like swr, react-query, or Apollo-client. I personally use graphql and my front end client manages most of the global state automatically. Chan

What I’m hearing is: Because the language wasn’t planned to support all of this from the start, we just shouldn’t use it. There’s lots of great reasons to use a full JS / TS stack. There’s lots of reasons not to. Doesn’t mean it’s inhe

It’s interesting to see people feel this way about JS. Lately I’ve been trying to learn kotlin... and man... that stuff (gradle) adds a weird amount of boilerplate to everything. JS / TS on the other hand. It’s a package.json, or tscon
