I had several screen calls with HR recruiters recently where they asked me why I wanted to work at their company, and I said something like, "Well, you reached out to me, so what do you think?" I did not get any of those jobs.

Chicago has great alleyways. On my block, we have a few alleycats that keep it clear of rats. There's a troop of raccoons that come thru every once in a while looking fo food. A scrapper comes around every week or so to haul away big t

My recent experience lines up with the article's stated average of three months. But I would hardly call that "quick". I did close to 50 interviews, and some companies' processes took nearly a month, only to lead to a re

It's sorta like how Christopher Columbus "discovered" a new world ... that 50 million people were already living on.

I think that it's fair to be upset that a newly released movie was spoiled for you. I think it's silly to expect that nobody will ever talk about the details of a movie that hasn't been in theaters for half a decade.

Get Out was released 5 years ago. I think if you haven't seen it by now that's on you. Also, Darth Vader is Luke's father, Snape kills Dumbledore, and Bruce Willis is dead the whole movie.

I understand what you're saying, but I would hardly call self-checkout "automation." All they did was turn the counter around and made the customer do all the work.

I think this is a fun idea, but it overlooks the fact that most farming tasks take skill. I think the owner would most likely end up with a trashed farm at the end of the season.

> Responses should be HTML: Htmx only works properly when the response of the triggered request responds with an HTML, thus, creating a web UI for an existing JSON API with htmx without using any extension could be a difficult task. This

I think you've misunderstood: This IS advocating for no framework. It's a satire of real framework's websites.

I don't think I'd ever want to live in Southern California, but the salaries there make me jealous.

I know that 300k is a lot of folks, but isn't that just a fraction of a percent of California's population? Is this an alarming trend or just something that happens to states on occasion?

I used to work at havocshield.com, which is sort of a walkthru service for organizational security. It's good for small companies in your situation, without any dedicated security staff.

Apple is a weird one from my perspective. I dislike Safari, but overall I'm pretty ambivalent about Apple in general. But most devs I've met IRL seem to despise them, while HN seems to mostly have a positive view.

This is really cool! But I think I need a concrete use case to fully appreciate it. What could this be used for?

I'm in a similar boat. I usually ask beforehand if letting me do a take-home version of the live coding challenge is a reasonable accommodation. It gets mixed results. Some say that it's no problem as long as I turn it in that day

You could streamline the test a bit by using `assertSeeInOrder()`: $posts = ... $titles = $posts->pluck('title'); $this->get('/posts') ... ->assertSeeInOrder($titles);

I say, start with the basics. Serve a few static HTML pages and use plain JS to make them a little interactive to find out how DOM manipulation and event triggers/listeners work. Try styling the pages with plain CSS to get a sense of h

Riding your bike to work (what OP is talking about) and not having a car to pick up your date (what TLC were singing about) are two pretty different things. Coworkers don't care how you get to work. Dates care bacause they don't w

And people on Twitter vastly overestimate Twitter's importance. That some people think it's a "public town square" is just laughable. It's the trash-laden alley behind an Arby's, at best.

I believe that AI will reduce the amount of code software developers write, but writing code is the least important thing we do. The most important is taking nebulous, sometimes contradictory requirements and restating them in such a way th
