...what are you talking about? You don't just "have an extra $4,000 a month" if you pay off your house. You lose all the money that's currently earning you 4-6%. $4k/mon is probably a million dollar loan or so, righ

I'm not nitpicking the unimportant bits. Half the thread is telling people why they're fucked (No really. You are. You're fucked.), and then using incorrect statistics and a long anecdote to back up their claim. I am not maki

I can't parse this comment. Shifts in power? Lowers the monthly takings? What? If you expect to make 6-8% a year in the stock market and pay 2% in interest on a loan, you'd miss out on a lot of money paying it off. You're ess

That thread is really dumb. You can't just throw stuff out there like "You're 20x more likely to die of homicide!" and expect to be taken seriously. 1. The demographic that is likely to win lotteries might already be mor

Banning sugar and caffeine would be tough. For sugar, what do you actually ban? Added sugar? There's plenty of sugar in fruits, especially when you juice them. How do you enforce this? Seems like a nightmare to figure out. Caffeine is

Holy hell you're right. How did I not know that/forget that? Guess it shows how much smoking cigarettes has been reduced in society (or how out of touch I am...).

Voting, moving out, getting medical care, and marriage generally don't negatively impact your body and brain. Alcohol, weed, cigarettes, etc. all do some kind of damage to your body. If anything we should raise cigarettes to 21. And ye

I really dislike this take. Listen, it's fine if people enjoy nonlinear storytelling to make it an "experience" or a canvas with a few straight lines painted on it. But it is stupid, to follow your quote. If you're usi

Pros and cons. I'd imagine a lot more problems would occur if pipes were exposed to the elements, for example. And of course, the issue of where to put the pipes when they're above ground.

The title is a bit misleading. > The calories that children and adolescents consumed from ultraprocessed foods jumped from 61% to 67% of total caloric intake from 1999 to 2018 So about a 10% increase in 20 years. Still troubling, of cour

The bay area campuses are not in danger from the fires, except for smoke. And there is otherwise not much money to be made in firefighting tech. That's about it.

The watch I have is rated to +-2 seconds a day. It'd take 15 months of not adjusting my watch to be 15min late. That's pretty amazing to me that basically a spring and some gears can be that good at keeping time.
