I use the em-dash quite often but tend to forget that I need to hit `-` twice to get it to appear in markdown. Used to be an oversight on my part but now I stick to it so people can tell I'm personally writing to them.

Apple are creating a walled marketing garden with their new privacy features too. If a person pays for iCloud storage of any time they get placed onto the Apple VPN and their IP address resolves one of two or three different values for any

I'm a fan of nhexl-mode in emacs. It does take a while to open large binaries (dozens of gigabytes), however I've managed to use it to do some rudimentary swapping out of video files on a modern computer game.

I suppose there is meant to be a tipping point where the humans should be able to step back after the AI has learnt enough from watching them. Perhaps they were struggling to reach that point and the failure rate was remaining stubbornly hi

They've had a binary version of the full fat linux kernel available for a few years now. Other packages like firefox-bin have been available since before I started using gentoo in 2017. Edit: Actually looking into this more the headlin

I use gentoo on my desktop and debian on an old refurb thinkpad I got for £100. Both of them are amongst the last of the large independent linux distros and I think both approaches are valid. Never had a bad experience with Arch but the way

tmux defaults don't play nicely with the Apple Terminal. Resizing split panes for example collides with switching workspaces in macOS finder.

This is partially true but I believe that the only component ChromeOS uses from Gentoo is the portage package manager during some of its bootstrapping protocols.

I think this is unfair - Arch is also meme'd by linux enthusiasts and 4chan. Additionally, Gentoo is the largest distro with the source-based package manager USP. I suppose you could take issue with that approach for reasons like the s

This is very similar to Aristotle's views on friendship in Nichomachean Ethics. He has a final category of 'true friend' that refer to someone who reflects part of your being back at you. Given that this is possible with anot

I believe archive.org is one of the sites because I tried to post an economist link using it to circumvent the paywall once and the post seemed to be shadow deleted

I actually quite like BBC sounds but it is completely possible to circumvent it. You might need to look the URL of a show up on there but you can play any show on sounds using `mpv <URL>` I also use that method to listen to live radio

The linked youtube video from the Tribeflame guy is very enlightening. I actually appreciate the transparency even if I don't approve of their business model. It's intriguing how Psychology 101 trivia can be deployed to such devas

I don't see much of an issue with them astroturfing the site when it first launched in 2005. Content begets content so something needs to get the ball rolling.

This post comes across as pretty judgemental. I'm not sure if ad hominen attacks like this are contributing to the conversation.

Reddit is built on free mod labour. I remember seeing a relationship advice thread from a woman who was concerned her partner thought being a reddit mod equated to having a second job. https://teddit.net/r/TrueOffMyChes

Does anyone know if teddit uses the reddit API? I believe it is inspired by nitter which is a twitter reader which circumvents the twitter API.

by yung_steezy 3y ago
Does this affect teddit.net or does that circumvent the API like nitter does with twitter?

I can appreciate that you are trying to be proactive about parenting but I disagree with your moral puritanism. Kids who are completely sheltered often don't end up as well adjusted adults in my experience.
