Computers cannot program themselves, so makes sense to optimize computer languages for those who actually do the programming.

But if it is 'rap music' violence, madness, drug use, rape, etc. are fine, because if you say otherwise you are racist. Maybe it is racist to not hold all human beings to the same standard of decency?

I personally know or have met almost all of the top intelligent design proponents, such as: Dembski, Marks, Behe, Johnson, Axe, Meyer, Sanford, Guillermo, Wells, and Sternberg. Most are certainly not of the 'god created the world in 6

Perhaps the bean pushers will be amazed and adopt China's practices. They are not without historical precedent. The Mayans executed enormous numbers of prisoners as human sacrifices. We in the US are not too far off with abortion fo

My point is that atheists and agnostics do not usually believe in creationism. Therefore, their belief in intelligent design may indicate it is not creationism. Additionally, for the Christians who believe in intelligent design, most of th

Last time I was in San Francisco about a month ago, I saw these creepy newspapers from China that advertised plentiful human organs ready for transplant.

Did you know there are atheists/agnostics who believe in "intelligent design" such as Nagel and Berlinski? "intelligent design" == "creationism" is another proposition worthy of careful thought.

Ever more algorithms and models and data, ever less understanding and scientific theories. Soon, instead of "theory of gravity" we'll have "generative DNN of science papers and grant writing" that no one will unders

Whoa, did not realize it cost so much to renounce citizenship! Definitely not representative of the Lockian free association of commonwealths that US was founded on!

Certainly, many past generations have done so, and we in the US are the product of such people.

Not trying to be nationalist. Just it seems to be a bit odd for people to say life in the US is atrocious, so much they'd end their lives, yet do not seem willing to take the somewhat less drastic option of moving to another country.

There are a lot of qualifications around the scenario I wrote. For example, in Catholicism, for something to be a mortal sin a person needs to have at least performed the action voluntarily and with full knowledge of its gravity. So, ther

Well, one counter point is the religious one. If one holds onto hope until the natural end of life, then they are guaranteed a great final situation in heaven that will never get worse. Conversely, despair and suicide are often considered

I'd say that's consistent with my claim. While the official Catholic teaching is suicide is a mortal sin and deserves hell, Protestantism has no official teaching on the matter. Plus, numerous Protestants believe they cannot los

Same story here. I went to US public schools and British grammar schools. The latter are no joke and much more stressful. US school I could mess around and still maintain perfect grades.

I wonder if there is a correlation between the increase in suicide and decrease in religiosity. I'd imagine suicide is a much tougher sell if someone believes in an eternal hell for suicides, and an eternal heaven for those who hold on

One thing to consider is that life circumstances that make us stressed and feel suicidal are transitory, but suicide is permanent. I felt pretty bad when younger, but I am fine now. It would have sucked if I'd killed myself back then

I totally agree with you. Comfortable suffering certainly seems preferable to unbearable pain, but maybe is not preferable to a daily struggle. My point is eliminating physical suffering does not eliminate existential suffering, whereas e
