While it's possible that it is this simple, spinning the drum back and forth to detect load shows a significantly more advanced understanding of control theory.

My current LG washer spins the drum at startup to detect balance and load, so it probably accomplishes some active balancing by modulating the drive motor during the spin cycle. This one still has a regular concrete balance though.

And the answer is... cheap computing power. If the plastic balance isn't full or leaks out, the spin cycle becomes extremely dangerous. Traditionally we used a system that was not prone to this kind of failure, but now that the cycle i

That's only because you forgot about Lotus Notes. Perhaps they will have similar fates.

The goal of affirmative action in general is to make a more welcoming environment. When the status quo is disrespectful, making the argument to perpetuate the status quo is making the argument to disrespect.

I must have read a different memo than everyone else. The one I read said that the massive gender imbalance in software could be due to genetics, and because of that we shouldn't try to fix it with policy. But the reality is that there

If we're going to be anecdotal, I moved to Atlanta from Boston. I now have lower expenses, a higher salary, the weather is better, cars last twice as long, and people are less abrasive. Every time I check there are more startups, more

You could legitimately say similar things about Atlanta though.

I get that you work with what you have (in this case, a corpus of job postings), but a ranking that places Baltimore in the top three tech hubs fails the sniff test. CBRE has a better list here (email registration wall): https://

You're looking at the impact on everyday life, which has nothing to do with the abstract advancement of technology. Superintelligence only requires continued exponential growth of computing power, which has documented consistency.

I think that's only true if your trust system recognizes the attacking key as valid for the destination. DV seems to prevent that, absent typo squatting.

That must be top 3% for a large value of 3, or perhaps a small value of 100. How's the HN traffic doing? ;-)

A bad touchscreen. Every touch I see has the appropriate fingers overextended and the others tucked away, as you would expect from a vision system. We forget how much we hated touch screens before Apple made one that works well.

If you want people to drive slower, there are effective ways of doing that. Changing the speed limit is not one of them. Try removing the lines, removing the curbs, sporadically insetting curbs, adding trees, etc.

Square has an Atlanta office in Atlantic Station, which is ~ 15 minutes from where Yik Yak is located in Buckhead. This same Square office previously picked up the Google Web Toolkit team after Google closed their local office.

It's not important where I can put it - the act of designing something that should be placed on a desk prevents them from designing what I want. A Ferrari is a desirable sports car and a terrible cargo van.

I don't have a link, but the echo doesn't transmit network data until the watchword is detected. It probably has a small local buffer, but not large enough to be useful here. So I expect that an unmodified echo would not provide h
