Why not use Namecoin? Seems like a good fit.

First of all, there is no need to be mean, even if I understand you mean well. Isn't it true though, that with some techniques certain bugs are impossible to make? If you have not experienced it, I recommend you to seek it out and try.

Sorry for being unclear. In my timezone it's pretty late. If there was not state, the coder wouldn't had tried to set it. I don't think a language needs to have the `=` operator easy and close at hand. Had that not been the c

Amen to that! If Rich Hickey is reading this - it is to you I owe my thanks for the many hours I have not spent on fixing state bugs. Clojure was my first functional love story.

You can rightfully blame having state setting be part of your language. It is easier to program without state than with it, just like it's easier to juggle 2 balls than 3. Without state (or with the absolutely minimum of it) you can no

A purely functional statically typed one, like OCaml or Haskell, because there would be so much less to review, and an insane amount of the reviewing work is automatic. Zero bugs around state, zero bugs around memory mgmt, zero bugs about e

Yes, this bug is not about memory safety - but having the state-writing operator so easy at hand was probably what lead to the mistake in the first place. In my GP comment I went on to rant about other classes of bugs which are obsolete sin

Yes it is. Assignment is another word for writing state. If your programming environment doesn't include a way to set state, you will never do it. Why is doing the dangerous task of writing state so easy you just have to hit one key to

Haskell has not even close as many libraries, sure. I don't know ZCoin but I have implemented a (simple) Bitcoin wallet. For that you need to have a good crypto library, but otherwise it's not magic. Mining as well. I think the le

The point I'm about to make in this comment is so old and has been said so many times that we all are tired of hearing it. But why do we use a language like C++ to implement something where we don't wish to have bugs? C++ is not m

We have a long history of conscription. I think it's a good thing. I think it's the moral choice when it comes to defence (but obviously not enough). That is because a conscript is not a professional soldier - and a conscript will

Yes they do - if not enough people volunteer, they will force the ones seeming most fit for the tasks at hand. Also, if I know the Swedish military, they'll chose the most fit for the task, but make absolutely sure to fill the gender q

I felt that way when I was called in for evaluation as a teenager. I was a peace loving left-wing Swedish boy. That was maybe 8 years ago or so, I remember conscription being scrapped a year or two later. I regret not making an effort to do

Send it. If I can control and extend the computing environment in my car, I will buy that car. I will also release the code I write for it - which creates apps other car makers don't have.

Look then at human languages - two of the giants are English and Spanish. Both pretty simple. Definitely they both are the most spoken as second language. They would not have that position if it was not for their simplicity, compared to oth

BONUS FUN: If you want to play around with lisp interactively, I reccomend checking out the program Emacs. It's a little lisp interpreter written in C, that comes with a text editor and such. Download it and run it. When you write some

Your opinion is just as valid. Can't say syntax is _simpler_ than s-expressions though. But so is ASM.

Good catch, thank you. To anyone who wants to play around with lisp, I recommend downloading the emacs text editor. Just open it, navigate around with the arrow keys. Type an s-expression, and place the point after the ")". Then t

It's simpler than it seems, and how strange people make it out to be held me off for a long time. There are cons cells. A cons cell is basically an untyped tuple. The syntax for a cons cell containing a number look like this: (1 nil) (

Well since it is s-expresssions (those paren things, looks like lisp), it is also very similar to JSON objects or XML elements. If you want to convert it to HTML you could do pretty easily. Use the car & cdr functions in lisp, and trans

After learning lisp, I just feel like every other language is a weird set of macros. Looking at this AST confirms that. Wish I could live the rest of my life in Sexp-land.
