My opinion is a private entity like youtube should be able to choose what goes on their platform. We're free to criticize of course, and not use their product if we choose. But they have the right to not host content they don't ag

What should happen here? Do we not allow YouTube to ban content they don’t want on their platform? What type of content? Just anti vax or anything that’s not illegal? Should YouTube be forced to host racist content, porn etc? Is it just You

Why is this standard not applied to anti vax content? You find YouTube’s actions distasteful and you want them to stop. YouTube finds anti vax content distasteful and wants that to stop. YouTube either has the right to stop this type of con

Do you also feel it’s wrong of YouTube to not allow porn? Feels like people are laser focused on anti vax content due to the political nature of it, while not really caring about all the other moderation they already do.

I’m not sure if this is true. I think there has always been restrictions to free speech, it’s just what’s not allowed has changed over the years. Try having pro Soviet material in the 70s.

I don’t think it’s a straw man, time matters. He joined mid - end 2018 and was fired end of 2020. We don’t know when the issues started, but it very well could’ve been close to 2 years. My point is the amount of time matters. I don’t think

I think the issue is the time factor. I think everyone agrees that if an employee is struggling for a short time then there should be some understanding, sympathy and accommodation. But I don't think anyone would argue that companies s

This wasn't a couple of weeks though. From the timelines in the story it was more than a year. Would you expect to keep getting paid on paternity leave for 2 years?

What's the alternative though? Let the employee continue to underperform indefinitely? I feel the same way here. I have a lot of empathy for the author, what he went through sounds like hell. But I'm not sure what Amazon was suppo

I don’t have a definite answer, but it’s not by country of birth. We’ve had too many ugliness in history stemming from that type of grouping. Because if it’s guilty by association (and not even association of one’s choice), then how is this

It is pretty weak though. It’s the same argument trump made in his Muslim ban and wanting to build a wall along the Mexican border. He had cases he can point to as well.

Isn't citing some example cases pretty poor argument in this case? There are lots of examples of muslim terrorists, so we should just ban all muslims? There are examples of Mexican criminals, so we should just ban all Mexicans? Edit: N

A lot of the recent IPOs are pretty big, and while I don’t have insider info I assume at least the early employees did well. Robinhood, snowflake, UiPath, Toast, Roblox, Coinbase etc. we are not short of large tech IPOs.

Some times when trying to merge in a MR, the UI will say the source branch doesn’t exist so the MR can’t be merged. Wait a bit and it usually resolves itself. But it’s super annoying when you are in a rush.

I really wanted to like gitlab, but have had so many reliability issues. The UI thinking the source branch doesn’t exist, CI jobs not running for hours etc.

I really don’t understand your insistence here. Firstly the original claim isn’t “regardless of any level of harm”, and I’ve already given examples of profiting despite harm to others. Secondly even if you insist on an extreme level of harm

Of course people don’t say those words exactly. But pushing for the ability to smoke indoors for example is basically saying my right to smoke should trump your right to have smoke free air. Ditto for fracking. My ability to profit off the

Netflix also doesn’t give much equity*, no one seems to complain about that. * they do allow employees to buy options with a portion of their salary and included a 5% stock option a few years ago.

Adult content usually has a high charge back rate. “What? How did this get here? My card must’ve been stolen” when the spouse sees the statement.

I don't think this was a leak from the QBR. The QBR goes into a lot more detail around finances etc. Sounded like this case the person was just trading off of subscriber data, which has other sources besides the QBR.

Of course it’ll be broad characterizations. How else do you describe a large population of people? Individually person by person? I find OPs take interesting and informative. Your comment on the other hand has added no value.

Yea totally. Little boys with genitals showing in public (eg urinating) is a common thing in many parts of asia for example. No one bats an eye at it.
