Probably because for most people they estimate the risk to be low enough (correctly or not). If I was a politically sensitive person in China for instance I’ll definitely be more weary.

Given the current attitudes towards vaccines and individual rights, it's doubtful we'll be able to have another achievement like the elimination of smallpox and polio. What happened in the last few decades? Increased mistrust of g

Is this an absolute or relative thing? If I have Ebola and actively contagious, would I still have to right to peacefully assemble in a crowded venue? Or is there some cut off of potential harm where this is true?

I can see the confusion but users also should be mindful of the context of using an app. Often times there is no exact location for example so “routes” should be taken as a general guide rather than specific path. If I use google map to nav

These alternatives exist though, they are just not popular. We can’t very well force people to adopt these alternatives to make them “global”. It’s also not clear to me what these alternatives should do differently. Should they just host an

I think this is one of those things that sounds nice on the surface but isn't really tenable in reality. Should they only host or also surface "everything"? Is deranking something censoring? What about not promoting something

Perhaps. But isn't google (and facebook, twitter etc) also in a bit of a no win situation? They implement these types of measure and they get accused of censorship and being "arbiter of right vs wrong". They don't and th

Problem here is "favorable" and "political position" are pretty subjective. Who's to decide what is favorable to whom and what constitutes political position? Is saying wear a mask a political position? These days i

But that isn’t the choice right? The choices here are meddling from just an American executive or from both an America executive AND Indian government.

Every posting about one of the larger scale companies have to have a “why does it cost x / take y engineers to run this thing?” comment. It’s like everyone at google / Facebook / Amazon are too stupid to realize they can run

Serious question. How common is it for a group of people to have this level of self determination? Eg if people in California decided not to be part of the US, can they?

I have no love for the CCP but I think this type of caricature simplification is both wrong and not insightful. The CCP members are not some cartoon villains bent on world domination.

Weren't delivery and taxis mostly (or at least a major portion) contractors before this as well? And can't uber drivers use the car they want as long as it meets some criteria?

Yea time off is a bit iffy here. Some of the gig companies currently (due to covid) provides some level of "paid" sick days. But yea as a contractor it's probably less relevant than retirement and healthcare.
