I'm really confused by the comments that say the tone of this site is "Hindu nationalist". I see no mention of the word "Hindu" in the entire page. In fact, it's as far from politicized text as possible. Not ev

I think fundamentally, people are growing more lonely as we shift from the purely physical realm into the abstract world of the web. You have startups like Grouper trying to solve loneliness, but in reality they may even be exacerbating it.

I actually don't find this story all too surprising. What really irked me was the piece on how Japan commodified various aspects of a relationship (i.e. "cuddle cafes"[0], those bar/club places where people pay top dolla

Actually, this is exactly why those who mire in poverty have more children. The logic is that more children = safety net in the future. This is usually prevalent in societies and countries without strong institutions. Hmm...

Hopefully this game will be good. I've been looking for a decent spacey game like Freelancer, but so far nothing seems remotely close to it. The Discovery mod in particular added a dimension that most modern games lack.

Haha, I remember reading this back in the day. While I came from a primarily C background, I have to say that Clojure truly is not only an acceptable lisp, but a refreshingly "modern" language -- in the same sense that Algol was a

Very interesting. If you don't mind me asking, how difficult was it to parse the grammar of Lua? I see you mention "Irony", but I've never heard of it. Is it a parser generator?

I think "work" is necessary, at least the connotation that implies one has to strive for more or give up something in exchange for a tangible reward. However, work just for the sake of working is unnecessary and detrimental to the

And yet, you'll find that the position probably pays less than even 1/4 of the value generated. Labor hasn't evolved much since the days of the robber barons. Employment should be a contract between equals, not an instrument

Spot on. I think it's important to mention the context of Taleb's philosophy. You have to keep in mind that in certain jobs, like trading, it is fairly plausible that successful traders are plain lucky because all traders eventual

I agree with your point on commercial and retail banking. I also agree that if banks pivot in the direction of "technology-first", they will succeed in the future. I'm a bit skeptical (perhaps I'm biased in this regard s
