Because wind and solar etc have a few disadvantages, especially that they are not steady, sometimes the wind is strong, sometimes none, sometimes the sun shines, sometimes it doesn't (especially during the night). And power grids don't like

Don't be childish, please. I am asking you, what part of what I wrote sounds like SciFi to you. Synthetic Fuel is produced for many years already, its not SciFi but decade old technology.

Things tend to look better the further you move them into the past. Nostalgia. Things just aren't anymore what they never used to be. HN was and is the same. IMHO the best place of its kind. While the article shows an interesting formula, I

The highest step is 42%, but overall you pay much less. On the first 8k you pay nothing for instance, then you pay some 20% on the next 20k or so, and so on. The last step is 42% for everything above 200k or so.

Scary news sell newspapers. This article is way to sensationalist for my taste. The one thing I find worrying is the large shift in power from people to financial corporations that has happened in the past decade.

It will come sooner or later. Point your smartphone at any person in the street and know who he or she is in a second. The technology is too trivial to stop it. More important would be to now begin thinking about regulations to limit abuse
