I feel like the missing ingredients are risk, variance, cost, time horizon etc. "Moonshot" type endeavours are not paradoxes. They do involve considerable uncertainty and usually some kind of large investment (time, money or somet

To me, "organic" means people organising via messaging within the data plane of the platform, exercising their rights to free speech and political organisation. Can you name a prior instance where a social platform has added custo

I agree all the socials are full of memetic hazards and nonsense. Data plane issue. The platforms obviously bear major responsibility for this but to an extent their hands are tied by dispute about what constitutes "valid" speech.

What I can't figure out is how DoS-ing congress helps them achieve their goal. This was an "inorganic" campaign and based on misinformation. Seems like an excellent demonstration of the risks of having your citizens wired up

I think the situation is very much more complicated than this in the sense there is not just one way to behave, the right way to behave is situational. Good wartime leaders might be bad peacetime leaders and so on etc. Do you want high or l

Safeguards can hard to fight for when they make key numbers go down but improve something else that doesn't (immediately) show up in metrics.

Isn't the world already kind of like that ("somebody else's dream"), just with "nobody at the wheel"? Like, technological society has "taken over" and there's no real way for humanity to opt out

Right and as a CDN they HAVE to handle layer 3 & 4 DDoS themselves so it's not like they're doing you any favours. The traffic is typically routed to the customer based on SNI.

The world was not an entertainment-less void before TV & computers. There were social gatherings, reading, writing, radio, games, thinking, hobbies and crafts, etc. Most people probably went to bed earlier though.

It's even worse than that imho, unscrupulous sellers will go into keyword planner in google ads and create content to sell supplements and find "under-served" niches. It's actively adversarial.

I think Marxists call it "alienation of labour", quite a lot is written about this. Loss of autonomy is definitely a factor, but also people can get disconnected from the output leading to a loss of meaning in the actual work. At

You almost certainly should not make any irreversible life decisions based solely on what reddit tells you to do, because what reddit tells you to do will 100% depend on what sub you ask the question in.

Agree 100% with all points. I love contract-first. Better for producers and provides multiple tooling options and better docs for consumers. I was agreeing with parent that some spec formats frankly suck to write by hand and openapi yaml is
