GnuCOBOL soon plans to release 4.0[1] version, with many improvements and some of the industry using it instead of the commercial solutions. [1] https://sourceforge.net/p/gnucobol/discussion/cobol/thread&

Good point. Poor wording on my part. Of course it will be painful. Here "only" has another meaning - it reflects that it will be a big blow to the global SWIFT dominance.

Well, you can't build a Java program that isn't resource hog. It should be ported to something natively compiled instead.

Matter of the capacity though. You could cover half of the Sahara with panels. You can't cover half of the Europe with panels.

String theory is falsifiable, just it requires so much energy that we cannot operate with in any foreseeable future.

Precisely! We cannot understand what consciousness is until we gain complete understanding of the human brain. Until that, we will have no AGI. Given the sheer complexity of the task, unlikely it will happen in this century.

What about accounting and bookkeeping? At least apart from bills management. There's open source Akaunting [1][2] but it has poor support of banking feeds outside of US and UK. [1] https://github.com/akaunting/aka

It would be interesting to know more about the COBOL migration and the parser. I am sure, many other companies with the legacy codebase would be interested in this.

I wish it would have been native tool, not Java. It would be much lighter and easier to use then.

F# is too restrictive and poor in terms of types and syntax. OCaml would make a better option as the Haskell "successor". Though, personally I don't think it will ever happen.

In fact, something like modern Philips Xenium would be nice to have. Their last feature phone was able to keep the charge for two weeks or even more. A perfect addition to any smartphone. Sadly, they stopped to make new models.
