I'm fortunate in that I work from home a couple days a week regularly. Generally, people will wait until I'm in the office to schedule meetings, giving me those full glorious days to get things done.

We also ran into this issue just last week and used the "find and replace" method. Here's one incredibly horrible solution (hack): publish your own "package" to NPM which depends on the shrinkwrapped versions of you

Twitter as a host was a joke. The zealousness for these micro packages, though, is all too real.

I want to say "look at the Java ecosystem", but that's not hipster enough.

BOA still offers this, and I still use it in some cases online. It's useful for subscriptions that I think I might forget to cancel before they auto renew, and similarly, for free trials that I might forget to cancel.

I don't think it's surprising. People love to find ways to be offended and express outrage on Twitter.

I've been there. If I recall correctly, I found that a "rmdir /s" from a command prompt does the trick.

The bill allows for 20%, up to $200, for "out-of-pocket-expenses". I don't think what you're suggesting would apply.

I can't help but think some of these statistics are ridiculous fear mongering, particularly the heart attacks. "Get rid of DST! If you get up an hour earlier than usual, you might die!"

What do you do now? Part time contracting? I'm at a place where I don't really need to work full time either, but I haven't figured out a plan for getting out of it.

It is extremely hard to believe that anything in the JavaScript ecosystem will be a standard or 'here to stay' for any timeframe greater than a year or so.

In my experience, the interest of one or both of the parties in meeting drops quickly to ~0 if you wait any longer than 1- 2 weeks after starting messaging to arrange to meet.

I never put a lot of value in the data on LinkedIn. Where else can I get "endorsements" for random technology keywords like SOA from people who cannot possibly know what SOA means?

This is what we use also. karma + jasmine + phantomjs. Admittedly, when we first started, I really did not understand which each of those individual pieces were.

"Stuck with" was probably not the right wording. Where I started with Grails in an enterprise environment, Rails would have been a non-starter (or at least a much tougher sell) because operationally we were a Java shop. With Grai

For those of us who were stuck with the JVM, fortunately there's now Grails (obviously modeled after Rails). Groovy makes programming for the JVM fun IMO. I've used Groovy/Grails for a number of web apps, both in commercial s

There is at least one thread where there's already been confusion around it. At first, I thought this would be from someone who worked at GitHub, because I didn't understand why else it got upvoted.

The examples are puzzling to me. Take this one: "I’m out of the office today. Check my email and let me know if there’s anything urgent." Are they proposing we should be ok with giving them our credentials?
