I have an old laptop (Toshiba R500) with a transreflective screen. This works pretty well in bright sunlight. I'm not aware of anyone producing one currently, however.

It should be noted that MPIs are extremely hierarchical organisations, where basically everything is run by directors who have a lot of freedom. When a director retires, the whole institute has to be reshaped.

It's not always so simple, as I found when I bought a "flexible" ticket from Germany to South Tyrol online. The ticket couldn't be printed, but had to be posted (an extra 4.50 euros!). It also wasn't possible to can

I like the X3 series (though I haven't tried the controversial rebirth). It has an interesting mixture of building empires, dog fighting and doing missions. They learning curve is a bit steep, but there are lots of enthusiasts modding

Me too, it just felt dull. I particularly regret it as they promised a single player version that would work without a network, and delivered a network-only game that requires a server to run. I much prefer the X3 games than E:D. They have

You could try Veusz [1], which can export in EMF format, which is useful for Microsoft Office and Powerpoint. (I am the lead author of Veusz) [1] https://veusz.github.io/

I've only received this from higher up in our organisation, but it appears to be something to do with § 54c of the German Copyright Act (UrhG). Edit: this seems to be because I am at a research institute.

Living in Germany, I've discovered such lovely organisations such as "VG-Wort". Apparently we have to pay this lovely organisation 334.40 euros for each copier and 300.9 euros for each printer per year to print out copyrighte

Windows 10 updates are not purely well-tested security updates, however. They include feature changes and cause compatibility problems. Some computers are even stuck at on older Windows 10 versions and can't be updated. If Windows 10 w

Updates are ok when they're bug fixes and security patches. They're not when they're forced feature and UI changes and often break installations.

Linux has a stable kernel ABI. If you can get hold of the appropriate libraries of the vintage of the executable and set up the library loading correctly, it is possible to run it. Of course if the binary is a.out format, then we can't

The bullet cluster is famously an object which is very hard or impossible without having some dark matter like substance. We observe the mass and gas are offset from each other in a collision.

This isn't PyQt, but an update of PySide. However I find the PyQt developer very responsive to bug reports. It's a much better service vthan the usual post to a bug tracker and no response you get with many other projects.

I find that rapidly flashing bike lights screw with my visual system. I can't concentrate properly if they're in my field of view. They must be a safety hazard unless I'm alone in this respect.

There needs to be a discussion. Public transport is horrendously expensive in some German cities. For example, it costs me 8.90 euros to take the U-Bahn into Munich and back. It's far cheaper to drive, particularly if you have a passen
