Common mistake: just because you don't store credit cards it doesn't mean that this changes anything about your PCI DSS requirements. As long as CCs hit your IPs you are responsible for them. Not storing CCs simplifies certain things but yo

Good luck with payfacade. I think it's a good idea. I just have to ask though, are you aware of the PCIDSS implications of a service like this? Level 1 compliance which you will need can cost around a million dollars all said and done. Btw,

This entire class of problem obviously doesn't exist in Canada. Never had to even think about this in the 5 years we build our company. How much mental bandwidth of creating a startup goes into these things?

Is the build in replication support able to correctly replicate schema changes to the slaves? That was the biggest issue with the existing solutions for most admins I talked to.

promises need to be build into the language and all libraries have to be build with promises in mind for this to work. Look at io-lang's @ syntax or for a slightly different ( much better ) take, look at go's channels.

Fascinating. The above post should act as a reminder that Sarcasm on the internet is really not a good idea. Don't feel bad, it's never the readers fault when sarcasm isn't obvious, that's always the fault of the writer ( usually the mistak

I think the cnn audience is ( used to be ) generally younger and more progressive and therefore has made the jump to online news earlier. This can probably not account for all of the decline however.

Our web nodes use 6mb of memory for all the web serving each. This frees up gigabytes compared to apache which we can use for more processes ( web and app notes are combined in shopify's case ). The speedup lies there. Added benefit is that

Seriously? Apache? There is another low hanging fruit guys :-). Tremendous speedups can be had by moving to nginx from apache (something we did at shopify about 2 years ago )

My biggest beef is that you can't expire data on the edges. You have to rename the files. For some reason they decided to ignore the query parameters to a url when caching so for /img.png?123 they simply look up file /img.png in the cache.

Speaking as a member of the rails core team, if you heard someone say that then he made it up. Rails until 3.0 was heavily invested into SQL simply because it's what everyone used. However, it was swimming against the stream in that rails d
