Heads up mate, last time I had been building an "intelligent banner system" for two months, adding a one megabyte payload to the initial site load, "because marketing". When I feel grumpy because of popup bugs, asap task

I envy you :) I always had this fear deep inside that I will run out of money and boom, poverty awaits (even now, that I have a more than decent salary).

Same here. Ten year check, worst company ever check. I never ever walked out during the trial months but this time I did and it was liberating. I will stay in tech, but after this "experience" my expectations just went down to zer

Are you using earplugs then? I tried to sleep with headphones but it never worked for me and finding a comfortable but effective earplug is kinda hard.

I think it's a nightmare for trivial projects too: it's like building a star destroyer for a todo app, because, you know, one day that todo app may end up being the death star. Who knows. Gotta be ready for that. Another thing: de

Question: how do you move away from gmail? Phone providers in the last decade came up with number transfers (I can talk about Europe only), but how do I transfer my gmail.com address? I have hundreds of registrations tied to my gmail (been

Linkedin is terrible (the ui, the bugs, the social crap, the missing functions), but I'm okay with that. When I want to find another job I start accepting the random recruiters and tell them to write me an email, otherwise I avoid it l

I'm using a node version: https://github.com/fent/node-ytdl The only bug I found is that name escaping sometimes breaks, but I usually name things manually. Ffmpeg audio conversion needs to be done manually, but t

Yes, that's possible, it still feels bad though (not to mention that most of the time sysadmins can still access my not exactly private machine) - why not work at a company that values me as a resource? I can sit bored (with a couple o

You are sitting on your ass (conidering you are a dev) for eight friggin hours. If you include commuting, lunch break and the time you sleep, this is more time than you can spend with your family, hobbies, recreation etc. You don't nee

Not "nothing important", but nothing at all. All my work contracts around here clearly stated that what you write in your worktime is the company's intellectual property. It doesn't matter that you are not writing a thin

I value myself more than to sit around for months so that the company may feel secure. I usually start looking for a new job after a month, since I'm not needed here and I'm bored (I also can't talk about this with the manage

Because that's not how it works. Subdependencies are still liable to slight shifting - of course there is the shrink-wrappish package-lock and npm ci, but they do some weird things I don't want to elaborate here. Npm is more fragi

I did something similar, but as an interim proxy (can record, replay, there are modifier hooks, can slow down requests). You have to point towards a backend api and on the frontend you use the proxy url instead of the original. But it'

vue is similar to react+mobx. react in itself has no two way data binding, vue has (well, it's one wayish, but let's not argue about specifics).

Probably they are just people and didn't have the time to write a responsive css, which is not as simple as it sounds, especially if you are not using a grid framework. Feel free to fork the site's code and send them a PR.

To me it seems that AirBnB is cannibalizing its own business. They are not interested in strong control over either users or landlords, for they need more and more users - but the laxer the rules are and the more people are using their serv

I can't argue with you, but "most of the time" it works. Not that I have a choice (unless I stop being a frontend developer), but the time we spend with node/npm debugging is not critical in the timesheet/log.

I like it. I started something similar with node (I never aimed for performance) trying to go for high grep compatibility but with added extra colors and js regexp flavour.

No, it's not okay. Imagine a blog engine (or a better forum) where the user can upload media (be it pictures or video) - and all those files will have to be sent for analysis to a EU server? The checksum is clearly not enough in this c
