It is because a big chunk of your rent goes to property taxes. Where I am property taxes are $1k a month for a $3k/mo apartment.

Whenever I see % increase as a headline you can be confident that its using percentages in order to make a misleading point. Sure enough a few paragraphs down: > It should be noted that San Francisco had an unusually low inventory relati

I know 7 people now that have had it. The worst affected one had to stay in bed a day, most of the others just lost taste or felt a bit run down. Children had sniffles. 2 were asymptomatic.

Around my city I'm seeing a lot of kids lonely, anxious and unhappy where I've never seen before. My children were really looking forward to school and seeing friends, were crushed when told it wouldn't be happening.

I have a Intel i5 2500 that I paid $209 for in April 2011. I'm looking at new i9 desktop chips and they're like 50% faster. 10 years? WTF? The laptop chips are barely faster. https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare&#

The Berlin Tesla factory is supposed to make up to 40,000 cars a month so hopefully someone will want them. :) Maybe they need a smaller model for outside the USA.

I love when cloud experts (Tim, Kelsey) look at other clouds and go "damn, is that stuff ever complicated". Makes regular devs like myself feel a little better.

As the top comment says, corporations like Uber should be pushing for quality free healthcare and strong social benefits. It would help everyone and make gig working much more palatable.

What exactly is the problem? AFAICS its just a potential problem - there is a social media platform that is not controlled by an American company. Now you know how the rest of the world feels.

I think I need to go back to the office just to get a better separation between work and home. Working during the week I'm helping with kids and house stuff, and if I have nothing to do for a few hours on the weekend I'm dialling

Wow no one asked if you have a partner or children or plan to. It isn't clear how old you are, what you want to do with your life, if you have a secure job, if you want to travel, if education is worth it, if you parents/family ne

The crazy thing is you get nothing for it. In Europe you pay high taxes but you get free healthcare, free college and the same for everyone in the country. In the US you get 14 aircraft carriers and something else which I'm not sure.

This is a huge point, people debating UBI are often talking about different numbers. 1000/mo is probably too high, 400/mo is probably a better level and you're right its hard to live on that in a big city, you'd have to

Any suggestions to keep regexes simple? They often grow to huge lengths which are hard to read and/or debug. It would be nice to keep modular. Maybe using websites like this is the only way.
