Yes but is it any better than parquet or hdf? edit - this looks a good explanation, parquet is more widely used and smaller, but slower. https://stackoverflow.com/questions/48083405/what-are-the-di...

When I first saw Arrow I thought the biggest benefit was a good file format. (Feather I think is the format. ) However it seems to be designed for passing tables between languages in the same process. If I never use multiple languages in th

No, I am one of the people I just described. I dont know where I fit in with the OP. I'm struggling to keep up with the avalanche of new stuff coming along.

I see a lot of 40/50 year olds doing Java/Python/C++ development with CICD unit testing skills that are handy programmers without knowing much about JS/ML/k8s. To me that puts them right inbetween your #1 and #2.

Emirates had something about 10 minute test back in April before boarding. I never figured out how they did that. https://www.emirates.com/media-centre/emirates-becomes-first...

Fashions always changing. Give it a few years and we'll be back to color, whilst Windows laptops will all by silver/grey/white.

I had a friend in NY who did the citizenship interview last week. I think they're back to processing OK.

For me I dont really like working from home, but I would like the flexibility of having most time in the office but spending chunks of time like a few weeks or even a whole summer elsewhere. Doesn't save much on office space though.

To me this is kinda sad. Software Developers are not vibrant or cultured and shouldn't really be in inner cities with the interesting people and artists.

Not sure where you live but around here everyone I know is much more stressed, going out less and putting on weight. I can't wait for this to be over. https://twitter.com/hashtag/QuarantineFifteen?src=hashtag_cl...

The contact tracing in US is non-existant. My town has tracers but they dont seem to do much. Our neighbour was positive but wasn't even asked where she went. BTW has any country with good contact tracing posted any details about where

If you look at leetcode style interviews this is pretty much exactly how I'd expect it to end up. FB probably is worst as most people would only go there for the money.

This looks awesome. I was looking for a solution like this last year. I budgeted a few hundred bucks but couldn't find anything. Ideally would have a way to handle a few different boxes. I did see something called Intel AMT, part of In

I kinda feel if you really need a lot of resources you can use a cloud server or local physical box. There are lots of workstation laptops spec'd like you want but they're big, heavy and expensive.

Volunteer - unemployment is the worst for decades. There are literally half the population not working right now with nothing to do, its the least useful time to volunteer. (OK maybe I'm wrong)

I read the headline and assumed this is about free online MOOC classes. I'm starting to think they are worth less than zero as well. So much time spent listening. Its better to get a book and try stuff yourself.

Go on a gap year when you can backpack around the world. This is literally the worst time to have a gap year. If you're stuck at home you might as well study.

I completely agree. Just the headline I didn't agree with. Universities for teaching, social work, fbi profilers will never be as prestigious as those where you can get trained to earn millions.

You need an intranet job at a corporate with on prem servers and firewalls. Its much simpler.

> funnel tech workers into government work Government work doesn't pay well, so it will never be as prestigious as Stanford or MIT. EDIT - previous title had the headline part where it said it will "rival Stanford and MIT"

Do you really need long term? I hate throwing away data but realistically I never really need old performance data. Some stats data is worth keeping but you can extract a few important time series and store them elsewhere.
