The Rolex Oyster Air King is one of my fave watch designs. It's so simple but elegant when paired with a nice leather strap.

This is my absolutely fave one of his mashups. First time I heard it I said, "This is genius. I wish I thought of that. It makes so much sense but I just never put those two tunes together in my mind." https://youtu.be&

Wait, holdup a second. You think a company handing over personal data to the FBI and censoring free speech isn't a "shitshow" but the REAL shitshow is that investigative journalists are "bad faith actors"?

I don't think that's true at all. If you go back and read his stuff, it ages pretty well in my estimation, largely because _why was apolitical. And he was way more informed by good humanities sources than any average Portland woke

I actually knew _why's real identity, but I refused to divulge it partly because I didn't want his performance to end (even though, sadly, I knew it couldn't last forever) and partly because _why is a fellow native of my home

I think you'll find that there are a large number of normies on Twitter, if you look under the hood.

Yep, Twitter has many "weird subculture" communities where people make obscure references, have their own values and in-jokes, &c. It does feel like these newer platforms are so artificial and cleaned up, and just so right-on

There is a user on this site that commented recently on installing one. The problem is I can't remember what thread it was or what his username is, or even what the name brand of the system he installed was.

But it didn't used to be, and not because of inflation. Somehow old school companies like IBM, Hewlett-Packard and NASA managed to hire top engineering talent by doing single interviews instead of multi-day seven interview slogs.

There is no reason why we can't have that, and I don't think you'd need that many tracks. Even something as narrow as cybersecurity has several different (ISC)2 tracks. They could have a different cert for each major programm

The biggest companies and the FAANGs don't care. It's a numbers game for them. They know interviewing isn't a science but there's very little incentive for them to improve the process because they get so many applicants.

The Bird anecdotes are legendary, but I also enjoyed his commentary on Coltrane. Even though Trane has achieved saintly status today, Miles certainly didn't regard him that way (though he did respect his talent).

It's a huge problem in this industry, especially for junior level people. Imposter Syndrome is real, so there's no need to throw gasoline on that particular fire. And usually they really don't need expert level experience in

Ticks tend to be concentrated in specific areas even within the same region. I'd be hiking the Long Trail or the Appalachian Trail in Vermont, and could go for miles or days without finding a single tick. Then walking through a differe

It's not a bad piece, but the writer needs to discover what the difference is between "it's" and "its." Also, it's "relativistic", not "reletavistic." [P.S. I'm available for all y

SO is pretty much dead to me except for search. A lot time ago I stopped trying to even use it or participate in it in the intended way after getting my answers or questions killed for what seemed like no reason.

I'm in a few Discord communities, but I don't enjoy using Discord. Even though I'm only on a few servers it feels like a firehose every time I open it. I get information fatigue. Reddit is similar but to a lesser extent. Plus

Google simply has no incentive to serve the customer who uses them for domain management. They make so much money from ads that they're far more concerned about their ad revenue than they are about money from paying customers.

Well, that's what the Neovim project is all about...stripping Vim down and removing the bloat and old technical debt. Have you tried Neovim? It sounds like it would be perfect for someone with those concerns.

Guilty as charged but complaints about "tinkering with Vim" kind of miss the point to me. Tinkering isn't a bug, it's a feature. Vim was designed in the UNIX philosophy of small tools that allow you to modify them to you

It's amusing that this well-written article got flagged, I assume because it violates certain convenient narratives that many HN users cling to.
