Right! I was talking with a guy in... 2017-2019 who was a founder of a different company that got acquihired. I asked what he thought was so interesting about the web3 space (still just called blockchain then). He noted that all he wanted

I'm totally with you on this. Who doesn't want to control global influence marketing? Prioritize certain content in certain locations, boost their economies... Obviously, I'm speculating, which doesn't necessarily help

Totally agree. Not sure I care about Starlink. Chatted once on a Webex with Chris Hadfield about 6-12 months ago, who said that the service was somewhat better and more reliable than his current satellite connection, but also that it wasn&

I know this doesn't really advance the discussion that much, but... if you haven't seen this Krazam video, it's a sketch about that exact sentence there: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8OnoxKotPQ I'm c

Maybe one day I'll re-read Daemon. A book not so far ahead of its time. Might feel a little too close to home to re-read. I'll never forget the gig worker assembly scene.

I don't know Elan! I'm disappointed, the link I edited into my parent comment doesn't fully replicate the original. EDIT: I updated the link to one that I found that works. I love and hate that comic.

Ohhh man this just reminded me of my favorite horror story... You probably know it. It's a web comic. I don't think I can say anything more but those that know already know. It's a pretty long comic but man does it move qui

Ha - how about "Bloody Mary"? I was 8 and that story scared the shit out of me. I love reading creepypastas, and when I was younger, I never knew if they were real or not. It was part of learning how to trust information. They

So BART fails, and you decide to leave through the same station. If you just walked through the gates, you get charged ~$7. But BART failed, so wouldn't there be some instruction? Would you not see the many other people leaving via t

That is definitely the problem. And I've dealt with it by being resilient and having more than one way to use the system. A bit of a pain, but there's only one BART and thankfully most others don't operate this way.

No - any time you have a problem you talk with a BART agent at the gate and they sort it out for you. Are they not present sometimes? Yes. Are they slow / overrun by people? Sometimes. But that has little to do with the fare.

I've found recently that even in SF, google maps's small business data is out of date and untrustworthy. I can trust it to give me a phone number and sometimes the website, but the actual omnibox info is only useful for businesse

As someone who just started mountain biking for health two days ago (mid-30s now, always been athletic but decided to take the pandemic off...) I agree with all this! Great list. I'm considering taking today off from doing hills on t

Would this be a better framing? - Every single place on the earth up to the year 2000 had an average temperature as well as a max and min temperature, along with a variance of predictability along those days. What do we need for our commun

Interesting game, but ... there's just not enough instruction. Is the game supposed to be for real words or made up words? The objective is stated "make the letters green", but you're not sure why they might be green.

Interesting idea! I lol'd at the name... Peerdiem sounds like crowdsourcing sharing company 'per diem' expenses... which I just don't see working. This is more like "Artdiem". But that's just my gut, I

Ha! Clever reversal. I like the idea of 'drop in' lately, since that's akin to office hours - the time when stuff can really get done because it's not the performative lecture.
