I don't think this is a particularly interesting take. Google's utility c++ library isn't that different from eg underscore.js (or lodash) Google uses some boost code and plenty of other external libraries (I can't speak

I had this same fear as I left Google, but it turns out that a great ide (eg anything by jetbrains) can take you quite far. It's a different work flow, but you simply don't need cs/ when your code base is orders of magnitude

I really want to see this used as an opportunity - not like "how can we recoup our losses by doubling the number of ads shown per game," rather "what cool things can we do with drones or cameras or mics or any other element o

This is often the case for many companies acquiring the marginal customer, because the ones for whom it is a good fit will find it first (very cheap to acquire - they're looking for you). Then there are customers who only need a trial

I've been working on a legacy internal python system that suffers from most of the complaints here (and in the excellent COST paper Rachel links at the bottom). The problems alluded to are, yes, solvable in python. But they also seem e

I think it's also worth noting that requiring an ordering is preventing a performance optimization This doesn't impact most high level python code, and an OrderedDict is a very reasonable default. But there's a reason why Goo

This advice seems fine but not great for salary negotiation. In general, because of the information asymmetry and extreme advantage the employer has over the employee, accepting a weak offer can mean leaving over 30% on the table, and that

I'm much more concerned about executive accountability than I am about individual employee accountability at a company with as much political power as, say, Google. Unions are a way of balancing executive power. (I don't think the
