sorry, I reordered the links and forgot to update the footnotes - you can probably guess which one is which one by the link text itself though :)

There's actually a difference between crawling and web scraping. Crawling discovers pages in a very loose manner by following all links, digesting them and producing more crawl tasks. Web Scraping, on the other hand, is a more contro

Could you expand on why you think it's ethically required to follow robots.txt instructions? Primary argument _in favor_ of automation (e.g. web scraping) is that it would be unethical to hire hudnreds people to do meanial, unfufilling

I recently joined a brilliant web scraping API company called ScrapFly, who provided me with the resources to create lots of open knowledge on web scraping that I always wanted to create! So, to add to this list here are my top 3 favorite a

This is sad reality that web scraping is quickly becoming only accessible to people who can afford the captcha/computing/dev resources. Identifying scrapers is actually really easy but it's not a binary decision. Anti scrapin

Weird that a hacker forum would be complaining about language fit for _hacking_ and instead yearn for corporate ideology. huh.

It is most definitely faked, as in purposefully engineered. There's a whole industry for this and every vehicle manufacturer has a team of sound designers working on designing sound for every vehicle model. In my particular area teenag

Fortunately, loud vehicles are getting out of fashion (from what I've noticed at least). Especially when people realize that the noise is completely faked and there's nothing "natural mechanical sound" about it.

I think HTML benefits well from an additional abstraction level. For example, for our blog we use wordpress style shortcodes[1] (or other html templating really) which essentially turns: [%url https://example.com "see my e

That's what it is tho. You create a time-line filter that shows only posts containing those hashtags - is that not a subscription? There are also more literal implementations for this like SocialHome [1] where you can click + on hashta

I really like Playdate as an art piece but I think that's the wrong way to approach open video games. Hackers are better off hijacking existing systems because they are just much more accessible and objectively _better_. For example, S

AFAIK anything that binds you a ToS (e.g. registration) is offlimit for legal scraping in USA as USA can literally put you in prison for violating _terms of service_, which is pretty crazy. Other countries are much better about this, though
