This raises an interesting question (I'm sure not for the first time): We seem to take physical post as being secure in the sense that if someone tampers with it we can detect it quite easily. However we worry about people snooping in on ou

I think when 3D printing takes off it will be the intellectual property where the money is at. Industrial infrastructure (ie. factories, logistics, etc) will become just another commodity like computing hardware is now. China will be the in

There is an element of habit from an early age, but I would argue that it is not the biggest factor. We only fast for one month out of 12 a year, the habit is broken for the other 11. If it was fasting day in day out from a young age then y

I am fasting at the moment from around 4am to 8pm. I was very apprehensive before I started this year as the days were longer this time round - I thought I would really struggle. However I have to say food has been the least of my worries.

The overwhelming consensus seems to be Google Apps. I did come across this whilst briefly looking into the problem. I will most likely go down this route, even though I am not afraid to setup and administer email, it is not my primary conce

I've been working on a web application for the last year or so at work. In order to do some lightweight automated testing from the UI down I started using WATiR; which is pretty cool. However I took this one step further and wrote a DSL on

I'd echo the use of WATiR. Never used Ruby before (although it's been on my list of things to do for a long time), let alone WATiR but managed to learn enough of the language and the framework to write a DSL based on WATiR. The idea being t

Just had a chat with one of the cofounders. I misunderstood / recruitment agent mis-told me that it was equity, rather it is a company share option scheme. I will be offered 100 shares (3yr vest period) which isn't great however this will

Salary is market rate, I think I may push for a shorter trial period, or more importantly a clause saying I will get a minimum amount - say 1% which we can then negotiate an increase on in 3 months. To be honest a trial period of 1.5 or 3 m

I think what is negotiable in 3 months is the amount of equity. what I may ask for is the guarantee of some (read minimum amount of) equity in 3 months written into my contract.

I've been offered a development position in a startup. The technology is pretty cool and I think has potential. I think there is a high barrier to entry in addressing the same problem. The company has just secured round a funding and estima

thanks. Yes kind of, I first had the idea over a year ago, when I realised everytime I log on I visit the same few sites to do web-housekeeping stuff first (news, email, share-prices, etc) before I would do what I initially logged on to do.
