Yeah, I'm with the other reply, you and too many other people here are saying "Weev was a jerk". Yeah? Well I think you're a low-life for making decent treatment conditional on your LIKING of someone, especially since I highly doubt you've

That's just concern troll nonsense, or what someone who'd never heard of software would say. It's easier to download a range of IDs than to guess which ones are valid. And "three email addresses leaked - hacker claims more could be at risk

When it's a laptop full of customer information left around in the street - as this analogously was, do you tell the company so they can cover it up or the news so people know to watch for fraudulent charges? Weev joked about a lot. Stuff t

Isn't it amazing how people come out of the woodwork to point out the force inherent in the GPL never say "oh, by the way, thanks for publishing a reference spec I'm free to use to develop my own code." As Thomas said, people would be less

If they're trying on their own dollar, no. But there's a difference too in how they do it. I don't think we should try to make people equal, but to make people equally represented by society.

The company I work at employs a few open source devs and we usually hire people who are already doing things we want, but we just want more of, or to have our use case a bit better supported. We don't really get to dictate what they code,we

I'd consider it easier to debug a piece of meta-code as long as the language wasn't too hostile to it, than multiple sections of similar code that need to be scanned manually to keep in sync. And for those corner cases, code them as one-off

Do you know what really destroys economic efficiency? Well-meaning people handing out monopolies to things they don't understand and then creating laws, agencies, courts, and breeding specialized lawyers to navigate the mess - all taken fro

But patents aren't a solution, the free rider phenomenon is called progress - not a problem, and by legal you mean you're on the side that does it. Of course it's profitable though, to declare other peoples' ideas to be your property, so if

Well, to be fair, independent invention doesn't matter for patents ... you aren't exporting as much as claiming what they invented as your own and exporting a license to use it.

This is a perfect example of missing the point though. Patents aren't the goal, they're a tool congress can use. The goal is to promote the invention of useful things. Patents are probably the worst way you could come up with to do this

The problem is that life is full of what looks like trivial tricky problems. Your reaction, and what you consider beneath you, is far more valuable in hiring than your performance.
