I'm trying to teach Morse code to my 10 year old kid and his friend. Even setting up soon to be modified CB radios for them to do it over the air. I'm actually testing out an antenna idea today at his friend's house.

This is Hacker News. Part of what makes it fun is that we show cool projects we did. Also, from the guidelines: "Please don't post shallow dismissals, especially of other people's work. A good critical comment teaches us some

For me it's, in no particular order: - Shower before bed. Going to bed clean feels so much better. - No programming just before sleep - A cold-ish bedroom - Read before sleep (a novel, not HN). - As little light as possible in the bed

Reading in bed totally does it for me. Most of the time a novel or something. I can do three pages at most before everything becomes blurry and I struggle to stay awake and make it to the end of the page.

There's a lot of comments on the "10% more vulnerable" part of the post in here that amount to "I just owe the company work hours, and they owe me money", and a strong aversion to showing anything resembling human c

That's why they said "if you're comfortable". It was totally optional. I don't understand your strong reaction to this.

I still have my base model M1 MacBook Air, and I never felt the need to upgrade. It never felt slow.

Interesting that this is the top comment at the time I'm reading this, while the article isn't at all about hijacking CTRL+F.

It is. But the article doesn't talk about hijacking its behaviour.

I recently bought an Atari Portfolio that was in working order. But it stopped working pretty quickly and now only shows random characters on the screen. Too bad, because I was really looking forward to that easy money.

I'm a pretty new ham, and only doing CW. To practice my CW I try to hunt at least a couple POTA activators a day. I'm (very) slowly starting to feel ready to start activating. I have my POTA kit ready for when I am. A QMX with an

A potentiometer is a simple voltage divider, and I think often used as an input to the ADC of an MCU, as a means of turning some some value up or down.

I recently used a 555 (and some other simple parts) to fix some timing issue my ham radio's internal CW keyer seemed to be having. Maybe I could have used an ESP32 module that I also had lying around, but I could run the 555 directly o

Well, to write the code you'd need some knowledge of programming. But some top of my head random example would be, if I miss a call from the tax agency, add an item to my todo list to call the tax agency back. Or if a number that I don

Melatonin isn't a sleep drug. It's something your brain makes naturally at the end of the day when it gets dark etc. As I understand it, it's part of your bio clock and is not much more than your brain telling your body it&#x

Lots of dismissive comments in here, which I don't understand. KV4P did an awesome project that he spent a lot of time and effort on, and then shares it with the community. I think he did a great job, and I am very tempted to build one

It would also be harder to tune into a station that is SSB because there's no carrier to detect. If you're slightly too high or low, the audio will have a slightly higher or lower pitch. I'm just guessing but with modern radi

Could you make AM stereo by somehow using the two sidebands (on each side of the carrier) for left and right?
