It's weird to think that we need a mirror (or other means of imaging) to see our own face. We can see a large part of our own body directly, but we will never be able to directly see our own face like other people do (unless, I guess,

I had it running on something old (a zero I think) playing with old Word Perfect and dbase. I later wanted to do the same and it no longer supported the zero. Must be some update at some point that dropped support. Too bad, I wanted to put

I'm totally unaware of anything related to Discord or its reputation, other than having joined a PicoCalc server (board? group) and it seems fine. What's up with Discord?

Ohh interesting! And pretty cheap too! Shipping to Canada is more expensive than the actual watch, but maybe still worth it...

It would be cool if someone made a mass produced "watch" that's all the hardware but none of the firmware. So a tiny computer on your wrist that doesn't do anything out of the box, and you can make it do whatever you wan

In The Netherlands you can buy digital "stamps" online. They're nine characters you write in a square pattern on the envelope.

My own accent doesn't sound neutral to myself at all. It sounds incredibly Dutch (which makes sense, since I'm Dutch).

This is super interesting. I kind of want to use this to turn one of my old laptops into a Scheme machine. But from the docs I think on bare metal it's only usable over serial.

Very cool! Reminds me of a very similar project I did for my (almost) blind grandfather. I used NFC cards too, but to play audiobooks. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=8177117

(not a very serious comment, feel free to skip) This is a funny timing. I was just discussing with my son this morning what the most efficient ways were to set free the mice we catch in our mouse friendly trap. One of the "options"

Oscar Toledo (nanochess) is one of my personal heros. And one of his books, Boot Sector Games, is one of my favorite books. Seeing him post something like he just did gives me a kind of joy that is becoming pretty rare on the internet these

I wonder how doable it is to fork a browser and just remove functionality from it, like for example making "user-select" unsupported. Or whatever it is that prevents me from pasting my password in a log in form.

I love these fantasy computers. This one looks very similar to Pico-8, which I've made a couple of games for. I wonder how TIC-80 compares to it. One obvious thing is that it's open source, which is very cool. From a quick search,

Some of these, including one I had as a kid, produce sound through a small gramophone inside. No electronic amplification at all, just a needle on a tiny "record", mechanically connected to some kind of speaker shaped cone. Here&#

I actually like the idea that it's always solvable. Like a sudoku puzzle. If a sudoku isn't solvable through logic, but requires guessing, it's considered an invalid puzzle.
