My daughter is into K-pop (Korean pop), and has a BTS (a music group) light stick. Apparently most BTS fans have such a light stick. My daughter even has multiple versions. It has RGB LEDs inside that are controlled over bluetooth by an app

The simplest thing missing in iOS is multiple downtimes per day. My old router is able to do it, but Apple still hasn't done it. I don't want my kids on their phones during bed time and during a large part of the day (school!). Bu

If the first time you run the production build is after launch, and you only do it because a customer told you it doesn’t work, you just learned a valuable lesson the hard way.

I've always liked working in legacy code bases. It's like doing archeology. Seemingly bad code maybe didn't start out as bad code, but was made bad over time because of historical reasons (last minute product changes, time pr

I think it's what was called the Hilux elsewhere, and Top Gear did a fun part about it showing how indestructible it was (spoiler: very).

This is good advice. Whenever I'm trying to recreate something that exists, I often run into what feels like forced decisions that make my reimplementation closer to the original. And then some seemingly random thing in the original be

Would it be possible to do a similar thing in a similar size for, for example, the 6502? I would love to give that a try, even though I probably lack the skills to make it that small. Or maybe it's even impossible.

When driving my Miata, the size of the other cars on the road is getting scarier every year. I'm in a somewhat rural part of Canada, so there are many oversized pickups. An additional consequence of higher vehicles is that their headli

How early would they need to be? I still have an original Canon 5D (2005) and in a way I prefer the output of it over even my Leica Q. I wonder if the reason is related to what you are saying.

Oh wow, seems like you encountered all the possible problems! Good thing you had two C64 so you could swap components. Do you have an idea why so many things had failed? Bad power supply blowing up chips maybe?

This is why I absolutely love my 1993 Miata. Every control is physical/mechanical. Whenever I use my wife's 2017 minivan, I'm reminded of that. Even changing the radio station requires going through a menu. The one I listen t

I feel almost the same about my oscilloscope but it did help me debug an i2c implementation that would have been very painful to debug otherwise. I could have done that with a much cheaper logic analyzer though. Most of the time the oscillo
