In 2012, I worked on a nine month project to migrate a fairly large hot dataset (10s of TBs) off of SimpleDB and onto Riak. At the time, we were experiencing tens of hours of downtime a quarter, much of which could be attributed to SDB. My

Yes. This is exceptionally beneficial in terms of testing and experimentation. Virtual machines in the cloud shine for non perpetual workloads, such as learning and experimentation. They shine less for long term (3yr+), stable workloads, wh

No. No team member at a company should ever be a slave to another, regardless of their role and function. Teamwork and participation in a group is all about service, not slavery. The developer acts in service to the marketer, who needs assi

While not 100% analaogous, there was a fantastic EconTalk episode recently that touched on sweat shops and human behavior. I'm not attempting to say that UberEATS is an "American" sweatshop, but the relative wage in our marke

In a lot of ways, that doesn't really hurt them hard enough. Unless you use a unique email address on every site, you're inherently leaking information about you. [1] Advertisers can then use that data to cross-track you between s

Unfortunately no. Any advertiser / marketer worth their salt knows this already and often will just strip it out and bypass it in their marketing platform. Sorry to say, but that's not good at avoiding the issue as outlined above.
