How is it different than if you give your address as 1234 York Street or 1234 Miller Street and they will not assume you live in York or work for the brewery making Miller Lite... It's been 40 years, people could have wisened up how

That sounds cool but I'm not sure how realistic that would be for most people, esp. international. There are about 2-3 hotel chains I can think about here in Europe where I have had more than one stay, i.e. where I used the same chain

Now I'm curious, what countries were those hotels in? Never happened to me in Europe (from the top of my head: Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy, England, Scotland, Czech Republic, Croatia) - just over 50 bookings/diffe

I guess this will never satisfy everyone, because my experience is the opposite. I've been using booking.com for about 10 years and the only things that kinda went wrong were when I didn't. So yeah, I've not had to test their

Also not sure how people who usually don't work there would create a vibrant environment, probably just as awkward to them as to the new people unless they were there for ages before WFH

Yeah that went from "WTF" to "yeah, well" pretty soon. I've heard about these regulations with local content quotes (doesn't France also have these?) and I can imagine no scenario where this $10M figure would h

We have this problem as well, but realistically - how often do you need or even look at the digital originals of photo books? Yes, the work invested would be lost but we let those print once and still have the original photos . As long as

Would be interesting to have some hard data with comparison for other cities like Hamburg, Stuttgart, etc. (probably not Berlin, as it's too much of an outlier). How many hotels, how many beds, in comparison to how many people.

I don't disagree with most of what you said but (and I might be misremembering) but the "grew way to quickly" doesn't hold up. When I was in school I learned the number "1.3m people" and that was the early/

My problem is that not all cheap socks wear out quickly and not all expensive socks stay nice. It's a bit of luck and who actually counts? But that's basically the real problem. I want to believe decades ago there was more of a re

Yeah, that makes a lot more sense to me. I'm 90% a bike person and still I am against a blanket 30kph speed limit in my city. I'm not against making all smaller residential streets a 30 zone, but the ring roads and the radial ones

We'd been using erlang and it was perfectly fine. Then we needed a REST API and I looked at how much work it would need to make it nice and chose Phoenix. For some reasons I still wrote a lib that I'm calling in erlang and because

SnapStart for Java 17 was only released very recently, so if you are a bit early in the cycle it doesn't help. Don't even want to guess when it will be available for Java 21.

Serious question: Are you a partner or owner of the office or just a cog in the wheel like most of us? I mean, if it was my company of course I would like the office I built to my standards.

On the risk of sounding ridiculously entitled, I'm not sure that helps. As someone kinda sensitive to being disturbed by people talking, the only solution would be an office with a door for every person, or maybe 2 people. Four is too
