This opinion piece (like the vast majority of opinion pieces) is not worth the time to read. The author doesn't even have a position. They're just summarizing a book that someone else wrote. It's not even a book review. There

I feel the same way. I've been getting better, though, and I don't mean getting better by reading more technical literature, listening to more podcasts, and doing more programming in my free time. Instead I mean accepting the fact

Interesting. I've heard that the culture at Amazon is generally considered to be worse than at Apple, Netflix, or Google. Not sure about Facebook.

Why is this kind of vague advice popular? Just because the author is famous? If someone else had written this would anyone care? Personally, I got tired of hearing famous people tell me I should read more, work on things I love, be an exper

To be honest you're not missing out on many good stories by not playing video games. Video games are generally a terrible way to tell a story.

Why can't you just say "you will possibly regret it" or even "you will probably regret it"? It's not inevitable that people will regret going with Discord, Slack, or Skype. Most people won't.

You should differentiate between active noise cancelling and passive noise cancelling. Active noise cancelling is what fancy Bose and Sony and (simply put) it involves cancelling outside sound out by playing the opposite sound. This should

Seeing as "turning the internet into shit" is a highly subjective statement, I wouldn't go around claiming that it's a fact.

There has been a resurgence in analog and analog-style synths since the 80's but overall I think synth UX has gotten even worse with the rise of software synths. Turning a virtual knob with a mouse pointer is a terrible UX. Mapping par

People have really turned up the Facebook hate in recent months. I find it laughable that the author considers Zuck to be a more powerful person than the US president, who can effectively end life as we know it with the push of a big red bu

No, there aren't many. There are some living off of donations, but it's a very small number. Not something that I would consider a viable career option because it requires too much luck.

It looks like the newest of these was written around 1940 - is there anything more modern on the subject? Has the field of economics really progressed so little in the past 80 years that these writings are still the best available?

> Progress, outside of technology (which is accumulative), is a myth. I'm really not sure what definition of progress you're using here but calling it a myth isn't very meaningful unless you give a good definition first.

That's just not true. Plenty of creativity is available in immutable environments. Working around limitations is a key factor of creativity in my opinion.

The Korg MS-20 mini sells for $450, the Moog Mother-32 sells for $600, and the new Behringer Neutron will sell for $300 when it comes out. Semi modular synths are pretty cheap these days even though they aren't quite as cheap or popula
