I wonder if Apple might use this as a way of phasing out BookShelf and making the Kindle app the standard reading software for the iPhone. If the Kindle app shipped on every new iPhone, that might be worth it to Amazon to give Apple a resp

Anyone can sell e-books on-line and email them to your kindle. Baen's Webscriptions ( http://www.webscription.net/ ) has been doing this for years.

there would be an exceptionally easy way to make money: Buy a future or option today based on yesterday's move. Leverage ad infinitum. This kind of co-correlation and general market direction is already baked into the option and futures p

Depending on how they defined success, 73% might be achievable just by looking at co-correlation. Up days and down days tend to run in streaks. If they defined success as predicting 'up' or 'down' for the day for the DJIA, just going with

The only book I ever force on people is "A Deepness in the Sky", by Vernor Vinge. If you haven't read it, please do. I've really been enjoying David Weber's Honor Harrington series, if you're open to military sci-fi. It's not on the Amazo

"Player of Games" is also a good starting point, it has some of the clearest narrative structure of any of the Culture novels. And from what I can remember, it's a little less dark than Phlebas, to ease you into the depths of Banks' mind.

I don't think small claims court is usually seen as a setter of precedent... :) Maybe they could sue for 17.50 plus some punitive damages (or emotional distress or something), to push it into civil court. Imagine the briefs and testimony y

Probably not - Seattle wasn't settled until the Industrial Revolution was effectively over, so I'm not sure this article applies. Its early industries were timber and coal exporting, and supplying the Klondike gold rush. Manufacturing, an

To whatever extent this article had any advice, it was not to ignore the tantrums, but to ignore the attacks. The author responded to "I don't love you any more" with "what can we do to make this better for you?" If you took a similar appr

I enjoyed doing the quests when I first started using thesixtyone, which got me used to the features and the layout pretty easily. I'm a bit surprised that they haven't done 'redesign intro' quests to acclimate people to the new design.

Google got whipped by Yahoo JP for quite a while, as I recall, and they stuck with it. They're still getting their asses handed to them in South Korea. This doesn't seem like a decision that's being based on market share. And Google doesn

Another important argument in favor of a native app over a webapp is the iPod Touch - sales of the Touch are doubling year over year, getting pretty close to the iPhone, in terms of units sold. Requiring iPod Touch owners to connect to wifi
