He did identify himself as a teacher, saying "The Ten Commandments that, as a teacher, I should wish to promulgate..". So he clearly wants to see those commandments followed by teachers.

This reminded me of my high school physics professor who always answered with a "maybe" whenever he felt the student had more insight into something than he did. It looks simplistic, but it was very encouraging as a response, even when we s

Is there something like this for Ruby or Javascript?

Anybody can link to me a post about Atlassian's core software architecture? Like tools they use and their overall design choices?

Hey no problem, a fellow cinephile here. And yes I knew it was on a book but did not read it. I liked the movie for a whole set of reasons (For instance, Christopher Walken's performance) but reading the book would definitely have affected

You might find Sir Ken Robinson's Academic Inflation concept interesting. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iG9CE55wbtY

Not a very good analogy, as ex-cons already underwent punishment and hopefully some reflection. Also, if I follow your logic, then that will ruin Spielberg's Catch Me if You Can for me.

That only works if you actually change your profile name to something meaningful like facebook.com/yourname. A lot of people don't do that (they have an autogenerated id) and in that case the email is mandatory. I should also note that you

Hey I sent you an email about a small issue I had setting up this wrapper.

by why-el 14y ago
That's surprising because I moved away from the Wine version specifically because the ads used to get stuck over the interface, even when Spotify was not in focus. With the Linux preview I never faced those issues again.

Yeah sorry. I was a bit sleep deprived there so my English as a second language tool set failed me. ;)

Has anybody tried their Linux preview? I am thoroughly impressed, so far its the best app on my Ubuntu in terms of UX.

I am pretty sure I was going for a 'for you and your partner' there. Not sure where that you want. Glad it's entertaining.

I am considering a move towards Pair myself. I am away from my girlfriend for the next five months or so and up to now we are only using Facebook messages, and I have growing concerns over privacy (Not that a move to Pair will solve them).

Yes I think he meant this one. But still, the comfort of not leaving HN is a huge plus for what I suggested.

This got me thinking, I see this pattern a lot on Hacker News, where somebody important introduces themselves and then people engage in really thoughtful questions and answers. I would like to see something of this sort, but rather systemat

Thank you. I read that a while ago but I must have missed the section on code.

Sorry to bother with an unrelated question, but how did you format the code pasted in your response?

I actually agree with your first part, and as I said, its an increasing trend, not necessarily the most popular. But that still worries me. But I disagree when you say women deciding to be dominated . I don't see how one can decide to be

What stuff? And of course it does not exclude the possibility of consuming porn (The only situation that does is not having internet or TV). But I don't watch porn and I don't think I need to given my current life style and personal prin

I actually don't. I am not sure why you would assume I do. I am in a very healthy relationship. But I did research on it for a paper. I also discuss this matters with my girlfriend and several other people who have growing concerns over the

You can always go to a porn website and search for words that convey degradation (rape, rough, bad words men call women,..). Nowadays they are quite explicit about it, not even bothering with visual metaphors.

by why-el 15y ago
Ok, so I have a point to make. I don't quite understand how, whenever porn is discussed, all the HN community gets very rational about it and we start discussing it as if it was a normal product. It is absolutely not. It is not what human b

I agree here. If a comment is not upvoted, it will stay where it is, and probably go down the list of comments. On the other hand Downvoting, although it has some valid uses (Essentially keeping this place from turning into an uninteresting
