I've been wanting/needing something like this forever. One thing I noticed is that the '30 days' menu item isn't removed until the app is restarted. Maybe you could automatically restart the app after registration?

I'd be interested in hearing how other people on HN implement persistent logins. I'm currently working on it, following "Charles Miller's Persistent Login Cookie Best Practice"[1], but hearing some other opinions/techniques would be great.

I wonder what the price difference would be for one shipment a month vs two?

I'd be really interested to hear more about this too. Offhand, it sounds tacky to add Twitter and Facebook links to a signup form..?

I think once SSDs become standardized we'll start seeing a lot less "preceived slowness." Disk access always seems to be the most noticeable issue after a year or two of use for me.

That was just an anecdotal comment - it's been too long for me to remember any concrete examples. I haven't had any problems lately though.

I used to use Opera a few years ago, but its Javascript performance was iffy. By the time they fixed it, I was already hooked on Firefox, and if I recall correctly, Dragonfly wasn't as mature. After switching to Mac, I tried Opera again, bu

For general/anonymous discussion, it might not be a big deal, but if you want to talk about one of your characters, then you're still associating the character with your own name.

In World of Warcraft's case, most of the people on your "Friends" list are just other characters you've played with, whereas with Google+, your "Friends" are usually people you actually know by name and face. I think it's understandable why

What will you be using it for? I'm considering one as a media center, so personally I'd go with the $799 model, 7200rpm HDD, Wireless Keyboard & Magic Trackpad.. the SSD is tempting, but $450 extra would make it pretty expensive.

I've been using this for nearly a year now and it takes me under 30 seconds to get used to the color change when it occurs.

Think of how much you need to make, and how much you would get paid with a full-time position. If the work is consistent and you can bill 30 hours a week 50 weeks a year, you need to base your income on 1500 hours a year. You also need to c

Programming and reading tend to take up the same mind-space for me; after working all day, the thought of reading a book just doesn't seem relaxing.

I tell them what I do (website development) and follow up with a few examples of what I've been working on recently. Most people have no concept of what web development is, but saying that you built a system to report user statistics or to

There are tons and tons of hosts that still haven't upgraded to 5.3 - if the change comes in 5.5 or 6, it'll easily be 3+ years before it starts to be an issue.

I'd be happy to pay $15-25/mo without question if they had a better streaming library. I wonder what % of their streaming customers would pay more?

Spend some time looking into how software contracts are written - they're usually very verbose/explicit and will outline exactly what the programmers need to do. It's also helpful if you can sketch out your idea on a piece of paper, if you

I think an idea like this could be great if combined with a partial javascript bookmarklet. Counting how many characters are in the domain name isn't exactly mentally taxing, but it would get tedious pretty quickly.
